COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Until the end of 2008 brewed by Huyghe. Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen Hoppenbier is a double hopped three grains beer. This blond beer contains 6.8% alcohol and is replicated from the city recipe of 1501. Jopen Hoppenbier is a refreshing beer with a light malty start and a long bitter aftertaste. It has been brewed since 1994 from barleymalt, (unmalted) oats, wheatmalt and Saaz and Brewers Gold hops.

Piwo o barwie barwie ciemnego złota, z bardzo ładną pianą. W aromacie lekka słodowość, kwasowość, przyprawy, lekkie nuty cytrusowe. W smaku podobnie. Wysycenie średnie. Niezłe piwo, ale do moich ulubionych się nie będzie zaliczać.

330ml bottle. Hazy orange coloured pour with a foamy off-white head which doesnt last too long. Aroma: citrussy hops, malt, mild spice/yeast. Taste: hops, malts, wheat, mildly bitter finish more so than a typical beer this style. medium bodied. Interesting beer, well balanced, but doesnt really so much for me Im afraid.

I thought this would be a hoppy brew but it turns out it is based on a Haarlem recipe from 1501 to make a Belgian Golden Ale using Oats, Wheat and Barley. The tweak on the orginial recipe is now theyve added hops to it. Served in a tulip it pours a cloudy pale lemon gold with a thick head of white foam and a citrusy sweet hop bouquet coupled with some wheat/belgian yeast spiciness. Light bodied with a scratchy mouthfeel my overall impression is it drinks fairly smoothly. The taste is bitter citrus (lime/lemon) hop character, some wheat, a candyish sweetness then a dirty belgian funk in the finish. A bit of an odd bird of a beer but fun to drink. I wonder what itd be like on draft...

Bottle from Beersquare, Santiago. Pours cloudy yellow with a medium white fizzy head that diminishes into a small lace. Aroma is hoppy, mostly grassy and green-citrusy hops. Notes of lemongrass, earth, cheese, fresh green garden leaves, a bit of unripe green apple. Quite different. Taste is mildly bitter with some good amount of cereal and grainy flavors that provide some sweetish punch. Wheat is evident. Nice. Seems like an IPA but purely with massive amounts of German-noble hop dry hopping. Quite good with some drawbacks. Interesting and highly drinkable.
