erickok's rating

3.5
erickok (6037) - Leuven, - NOV 19, 2012
Dark roasted malts, sticky toffee, pecan nuts and some forest-y hops. Heading towards imperial stout, but with its present, cheesy Belgian yeast it has a character on its won. Mild wood presence at the start, with more soft sweet malts from the middle onwards. Soft carbonation, bit sticky in the end. Looses a bit of interest after some sips though. Would have liked more hops or spice (although it would agreeably change this beer’s character). An enjoyable quad. Not cheap. (33cl bottle, De Bierwinkel Leiden)

Alcohol is well hidden, pretty mild and drinkable for a quad, which has its good sides because its not overly sweet like some, even some tart fruit in there, gooseberry maybe?

Kastanjebruin van kleur met een off-white kleurige schuimkraag. Aroma en smaken van donker fruit, dadels, houttonen, jonge eik, hint vanille, stroop. Redelijk vol en zeer soepel in de mond. Licht plakkerige zoete afdronk. Beetje warmend. Zeker een upgrade van het basisbier (ongelovige thomas). Mooie Quad.

Monthly bottle share at Chez Sophie: 22nd May 2017. Four way split. Cheers Simon for the 33cl bottle: BBD 23rd Dec 2018. Amber pour with a red hue to it, the head a beige affair. I found this to be a sweet brew with vanilla and woody flavours to the fore: liked it.

minutemat (5407) - Shrewsbury, Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 23, 2017
330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, courtesy of Simon. Thanks chap! Pours a deep reddish amber, smudged tan head. Aroma is ripened dark fruits, moderately sweet caramelised malt. Taste is smooth, balanced sweet candied fruits, relaxing caramel malts.. perhaps a little boozy rich, but quite pleasant and flavoursome.

klm1 (1501) - Bled/SF, - MAY 21, 2017
Pours dark reddish brown, slightly clear with foamy beige long lasting head. Aroma: malts with notes of caramel, toasted toffee, biscuit, dark fruit esters...flavour follows aroma: intense dark fruit esters, as forest fruits, plums, resins, some muscat grape notes, rich malt charackter with notes of caramel, toasted toffee...and some sherry-like alcohol note. Finish is slightly dry, fruity, body is full, texture smooth, carbonation is moderate medium.

Kleurplaatje (195) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 16, 2017
Pours reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity, roasty and somewhat vinous. Clear presence of forest fruits in the nose. Flavor is bittersweet. Biscuits, caramel, dark fruits, hops, vanilla, wood, spices... Warming finish. Excellent. Bit of an alcohol bite though, but its complexity makes it up pretty well. Finish is sweet, with a dryish tone. Syrupy texture, fizzy carbonation. Definitely a tasty one, but it has its sharp edges.

Draft. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of hops, caramel, and alcohol, leading to a bitter finish.

MelvinKalksma (1516) - NETHERLANDS - APR 19, 2017

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, wood, vanilla, dried fruit, bread and spices.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque dark orange/dark brown beer with heavy yeast and with a slight/medium beige head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood, vanilla and dried fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with bread and spices.

Overall:
This beer is intense and balanced, but lacks complexity. Very soft flavours and palate with a lot of flavour, but not very much going on at the same time. Very good beer overall, but never amazes.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a small off-white head and an aroma of vanilla, oak, toffee, ripe dark fruits, mango, licorice and dried plums. The taste is medium to heavy sweet with a full body, a soft carbonation and an medium lasting bittersweet finish. Nice!
