Almost black body without much of a head. Port wine notes, woody, red berries and roasted malts. Simple taste start with dark sugar notes, middle becomes more complex and ends bitter. Lasting licorice root ending. Decent brew, bit not quite my kind of beer. (33cl bottle traded with Rob, thanks!) ShivanDragon (4697) - Leeuwarden, NETHERLANDS - MAY 14, 2013

Bottle @ home. Dark brown pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, alcohol, licorice, candy sugar and some spices. Flavor is warming fruity, quite spicy, bitter and quite sweet. Intense brew.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a creamy, light tanned head. Aroma is boozy, syrupy, sugary and has heavy molasses and licorice, which return flavor. Very sweet in the flavor and heavy alcoholic. Great to sip, full bodied and flavored. Good beer, but overly sweet. Borresteijn (7593) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - APR 11, 2013
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Deep dark brown colour, creamy off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet, pear drups or raspberry sweets, much like La Trappe Quadrupel imo, alcohol, tiny hint of bay leaf. Flavour is sweet, alcoholic, pear drups, bay leaf, burnt caramel, liquorice, bitter alcoholic finish with some bay leaf. Medium-bodied. Not much noticed of the promised dry-hopping. Nice enough beer, lacks a bit of depth imo. mike_77 (7226) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - APR 4, 2013
Very dark brown with decent, lasting head. Aroma has a touch of alcohol and some liquorice. There’s a background dry fruitiness to the beer but the liquorice sweetness dominates. There’s some bay leaf too. Not as good as last years version. Countbeer (6589) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 24, 2013
I already heard lots of things about this beer, or it was positive or it was negative... They made me curious, so I decided to get a bottle and try one.
This beer pours clear brown. Leaves a medium sized pretty vast and slowly changing beige tan colored foamy head on top of a deep dark clear ruby colored beer.
The aroma is quite nice: there’s toast, barleys, raisin, some red fruit, flowers, alcohol, cream, molasses, some sweets, close to complex.
Ough, the flavour of this beer is dominated by a spicy alcohol tone. Kind of an alcoholic bomb with some raisin. It’s spicy at first, than it’s warm, bit like liquor. There is some raisin, figs and prunes, some toast, barley malts, sweets and liquorice wood. Pretty good bitter bit like a dry liquorice bitterness.
After a while it gets a bit dry bitter, so towards the aftertaste.
This beer is a bit like cough syrup. If so, I hope it gets my cold away.
I can not taste anything of the hops since the alcohol dominates. A pity because they used some nice hops to create this beer.
Aftertaste is a mix of liquorice wood, raisin, bitter, some alcohol and a lot of warmth.
Low carbo, at first it has a soft silky mouthfeel, than after swallowing the beer it becomes spicy and alcoholic, more than a medium body and a creamy texture.
Unfortunately this is not such a good beer, it is not bad either, but this is quite unbalanced, the sweetness is ok as are the aromas, but the alcohol dominates and kind of destroys it... Maybe with some years or something like oak aging it might be better. But for now I say, thank you and byebye... JanEric (1249) - Meppel, NETHERLANDS - MAR 10, 2013
Bottle from Mitra kisjes Meppel. Sweet aroma, bron to black colour, minimla head. Full bodied, fizzling in mouth, alcohol shows up, sweetish, some liquorice, candy like. It’s a nice one but not the best meesterstuk from all.
