COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Until 2008 brewed by Huyghe. Until 2006 brewed by Van Steenberge. Jopen 4 Grains Bokbeer is made as a ruby red beer made with the three traditional Haarlem grain and rye as a forth grain. The beer contains 6,5% alcohol and has a fruity aroma combined with the dark malts. The taste is lightly smoky from the dark malts used, but there is some sweetness in it to.

Has the typical Jopen molasses flavor and smell like with ’Koyt’ and ’Meesterstuk’ beers etc But this one has more burnt malts and dark bitter flavors, not as sweet. I like the burnt / smokey undertone with the medium sweet caramel, molasses and candy sugar to balance it out. Has good body to it. Good beer.

Tap. Tasted on the 12/05/2017 at Taphouse (Copenhagen). Hazy brown colour with a medium sized white head. Aroma of caramel, dark malts, toffee and bread. Taste is almost the same with a strong caramel and wood finish. Soft carbonation. Next one please!

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2017 It got a fruity aroma but when I taste it. The beer was a little to flat for a bockbeer. It got a medium bitterness and a little sweet but hardly to recognize. I dislike the aftertaste after a sip of beer. I expected more body and taste of this Jopen Bock Beer.

Bottle shared. Dark brown pour, hazy, with a thin tan head. Notes of roasted malts, chocolate, dried fruit, sugar and a light metallic sensation. Medium body and carbonation and a bitter-sweet finish.

hauxe (712) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - NOV 5, 2016
Pours reddish brown from the bottle and leaves a thick, foamy head that quickly subsides. Mild aroma of roasted grain with a light red berry undertone. Taste is smokey, bittersweet, with both chocolate and coffee undertones. Bittersweet may be a bit generous of a term. Bitterness is there, and sweetness too, but the meshing is less than perfect. Overall lighter than most German bocks and with a finish that trends grainy and smokey instead of rich and sweet. Good, but I would not seek it out again.

33 cl bottle, served in snifter. Poured dark brown with a two finger tan head. Aroma: malts, nuts, vanilla, coffee, milk chocolate. Taste: milk chocolate, toffee, roasted malts, light bitterness, hazelnuts, vanilla, oatmeal, caramel. Medium body with a malty bittersweet finish. Nice bok.
