Thanks to Wittales in the local 3.14 swap. Pours a clear golden orange from the can with bubbly off-white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma is light, but resinous citrus from the heavy cascade and a faint sweet maltiness. Taste is bigger, but a hint of soapy middle, bitterness takes over and lingers. Soft carbonation, good balance, minimal booziness, not bad.

0.65l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a light cloudy honey-colored one with a small bubbly off-white head. A bit fruity, but tons of malty, sweet caramel with sweet dried fruits on the aroma. A bit concentrated and sweet. Oh, the taste is quite pungent and sweet. Lots of boozy tones swirling around here. The texture is shockingly thin and watery. Feels like the flavors lie on the bottom of the glass and its just water up on the top. Strange strange. Cactus finish with some sweet raisins. Mysterious. 27.07.2012

15 June 2012. Can. Gold, clear, no bubbles. Nose is sweet orange juice, barley winish, Carmelized syrup. Med body and slightly fizzy. Faintly yeasty, lots of sweet sugar, faint bitter finish. Great all around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Pours a clear copper color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is a little more resiny than I usually find with the IPA family, but pleasant nonetheless; just a hint at some caramel in the end. Taste is quite bitter, but still very drinkable and light. Hides the 9.3% quite well, methinks.

Pours hazy dark orange. A very grapefruity aroma, almost overpowering and not fresh. The flavor is dominated by the hops, perhaps too much. There is a distinct bitterness that tapers off toward the end leaving a pleasant, mellow dryness on the back of the tongue. This is its most redeeming quality.

Golden beer with a sticky white head. Big thick hop resin nose. Strong caramel malt backbone with grapefruit rind and apricot hop flavors. There is a long pinching bitter finish. Nice IIPA.

A vigorous pour into my teku glass produces a two finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a bright, copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, golden copper color. The beer smells of crystal malt and then some supporting hop character. Sweet tea notes, caramelized grain, touches of grapefruit, and some pine like notes.

The beer has a solid bitterness, with a lingering pine and menthol astringency, with an up front grapefruit zest character. The finish also has a toasted whole grain cracker note, some lingering sweet tea leaning crystal malt notes, as well as a caramelized note that adds a bit too much here. The body is a bit on the chewy side for an IPA.

Not really my type of IPA, a bit too malt focused, and the hop character could be a lot more floral and characterful. Wow, I was quite surprised that this was an Imperial IPA, really makes me like it even less.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2014 This is a pretty decent IIPA but my can at least is not terribly fresh or vibrant tasting. If that is just how this beer is or if its old, I cannot tell because there is no date on it. Oh well. Rated as is for purposes of science! It pours an orange color so hazy aas to be verging on muddy. Its head is thick and white and made of evenly sized small bubbles. The nose on this is, as youd expect, quite hoppy with an emphasis on pine mostly and some earthy herbal notes underneath. It is somewhat sweet but not overly so and just a touch on the sticky side. This is a one and done kind of beer. It is just a bit too heavy to drink a lot of, which isnt really a terribly problem at over nine percent alcohol. Finish is caramelly sweet with a lingering earthy bitterness. This isnt bad but theres really just so many good IIPAs that I dont see myself every buying this again unless maybe I see it on tap.

Bottle. Clear amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma is maybe a bit stale but has notes of grapefruit, mango, citrus, caramel and blackberries. Quite fresh aroma with a nicely malty backbone. Taste is light sweet and medium to high bitter with notes of grass, caramel and biscuit. Medium bodied with a bit high carbonation. OK DIPA, especially for the price ($4).

It poured a hazy copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was of moderate earthy hoppiness and sweet maltiness. The taste was similar with soft carbonation and a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Nicely done.
