3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Compared directly to the Josephsbrau Hefeweizen I had earlier.
A: Pours a very dark tawny color with strong yeast haze. The head is a two finger light cream color with decent enough texture, but low retention. More aesthetically pleasing than their hefe.
S: Banana, wheat, brown sugar, caramel, and some lighter fruits. Weak but pleasantly aromatic.
T: A decent amount caramel and brown sugar to start. There are hints of crisp apple and other dried fruits in spots, while the finish is smooth and wheaty. Just like TJ’s hefe, it’s decent enough, but kind of nondescript.
M: A little less carbonation than I anticipated. Thinning out the body a little bit would really help this one be more drinkable - like a lot of the Josephsbrau beers, it’s too heavy to support the flavor profile, but it’s drinkable enough otherwise.
O: Pretty damn average on all counts, but there’s a modicum of enjoyment to be found here. It’s cheap as hell, so it’s still definitely worth a look.
Smooth and sly this amber beer fees rich! I can drink this full bodied beer any time of the year which is unusual as i tend to prefer wines in colder wetter months of the year but not this beer. Since enjoying his beeri hav found it impossible to those anorexic anemic pale beers such as the heinken i use to enjoy. I cannot seem to find this josephs brau from trader joes in either of the 3 stores n my area. I would really appreciate it ifsomeone could tell me if they still make or if sniff... sniff... there is somthing out there similar. ozzy70 (1211) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 26, 2016
12 oz. bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s in Omaha. Poured murky brown, foamy off white head. Aroma was malty, fruits, raisin.
Taste was sweet, raisin, figs. Poobah (455) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - JUN 7, 2016
Caramel-colored and cloudy with a medium head and a spicy, ripe banana nose. Smooth entry with a thin, somewhat malty mouthfeel followed by a caramel finish. Quick3Beers (1319) - East Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 27, 2016
Pours a dark brown from a bottle, almost no head. Smells and tastes like a caramel malted milk shake, but thin and watery with no depth. Meh. NallePalle (665) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - JAN 6, 2016
Bottle, 12 fl oz, Trader Joe’s, Fort Lauderdale FL. Decent, clear features of banana in aroma. Not that complex aroma, though, as expected.

Bottle at home. Reddish brown pour. The aroma is ripe brown banana, spice, toasted wheat. The taste is toasty malt, spice, yeasty esters, dark ripe fruits. Nicely balanced finish. Larry_Duffman (571) - - NOV 18, 2015
I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours a dark amber color with an off-white head and some lacing. The aroma is bubblegum, banana, yeast, and clove. The taste is banana, clove, funk, and yeast. There is a lively carbonation to it with some sour notes on the back end. I bought a six-pack of this once and got tired of it. A single bottle was enjoyable though. Bavarian_Beer (49) - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, GERMANY - OCT 23, 2015
Pours a dark Amber color with soft tan head. Aroma of bubblegum, clover and spices. Taste is light and full of the same flavors. Palate is light and thin for style but not bad over all. tnkw01 (1774) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 20, 2015
Bottle. Medium brown in color. With a medium off while head. Aroma was clove and banana bread. Taste was banana bread with hints of caramel and a slightly bitter finish. cheap (5960) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 1, 2015
Nice darker hefe looking thing from a bottle. Mild sweet candy olfactory. At first a little difficult, again seems somewhat aged but date is 9/12/15. Perhaps more bitter and medicinal than was expected. Creamy hefe co2 is welcomed on gulps. Getting better as session continues. Banana is more apparent on the finish.
