JosephsBrau Brewing Company’s Winterfest is a rich, dark bock, inspired by the beers Bavarian monks brewed to lift their spirits during the long fasts of Lint. Dark roasted Munich and caramel malts worked wonders for hungry monks. Our Winterfest is sure to do the same for you. 7.5% alcohol by volume, 28 bitterness units.

Pours a typical bock, dark amber body with a frothy beige head that sticks around. Nice lacing. The aroma is faint, slightly coppery. Taste is light considering it’s a double bock, caramel, hops, slightly metallic, leaves a sweet, metal aftertaste. Not bad, pretty typical bock.

Bottle at home. Nice creamy mocha head. Dried fruit, pumpernickel, oxidation on the nose. Lots of sweet malt, prunes, boozy sherry notes. Abrasive finish. Full bodied. Meh.

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours copper with a small, off-white head. The aroma is caramel and tea. The taste is very malty. It’s caramel and some earthiness. There’s little carbonation. It was a little thin. This was okay.

12 oz. bottle thanks to jcwattsrugger. Color is a dark mahogany with a thin white head. Aroma is raisins, dark bread, chocolate, and yeast.

Flavor shows toffee, toasted dark bread, and dark fruits. Some cola hints with chocolatey finish. Also have a mild bitterness for balance. Good body, smooth carbonation. Honestly, much better than I anticipated.

Bottle. Clear brown color. Aroma is all cane syrup. Taste is tart apple, caramel, toffee and cream cheese. The finish is a nice hops mixture and the alcohol is not overpowering but a nice warm touch. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A lot of caramel taste. I don't love bocks and this did not change my mind. What it lacks in body it makes up for in carbonation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - big foamy head, beautiful dark Amber color, big malty aroma and flavor, fair earthy hop balance, a little bit of a weird/off flavor in there, not bad overall though ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Color of root beer, almost no head. Smelled of tobacco, caramel and iced tea leaves but somehow unappealing. Maltier flavor than expected. Sweet malts, barley, some caramel and toffee, soft texture...it sort of rallied for me after a lousy start but overall I was not whelmed.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joes. Label says brewed in San Jose, CA, with no mention of Gordon Biersch. Different label and listed as Winter Brew, Dark Bouble Bock Lager. Pours brown with head and lace. Aroma of dark roasted malts. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, slightly burnt caramel, minerals, slight oak or earthy flavors. Overall rich, hearty, decent.

Bottle. Nose is slightly bitter and spicy. Taste is extremely spicy, and it overwhelms everything else.
