COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Only available filtered and pasteurised in bottles.
Matured in wooden casks of Lagavulin Malt Whiskey, one of the most distinctive malt whisky from the island of Islay, characterized by the strong peaty notes which should blend with the Harvest Ale to give an explosion of flavors.
This fully fermented ale has been brewed by JW Lees as a celebration of the brewers’ art. Harvest Ale can be enjoyed now or laid down like a fine wine for enjoyment to come.

Bottle. Brewed in 2004. Pours an amber color with an ivory head. Sweet, malty aroma with notes of smoked peat and caramel. Tons of fruit as well. What a fantastic aroma! Sweet and malty; tons of caramel. Notes of leather, whiskey, smoked peat, tobacco, cherries, raisins and plums. Very smoky aftertaste. Some vanilla. A bit too sweet and a somewhat astringent aftertaste but very good.

The Lagavulin variant of Harvest Ale has been one of the finest Barleywines I've had recently, but I'll be damned if it isn't so cohesive that it's tricky to describe. Golden brown pour with a small but uniform head. The peaty whiskey character had been softened through aging, but there's a fair amount of woodiness on the nose. Malty, plummy, and (toasted) sugary character. Plenty of booze warmth and sweetness. This has the feel of a hearty, rich brew. A strong and lovely Barleywine.

Draft sample. The beer is a clear gold with a white head of foam. Strong booze and sweet popcorn notes. Grainy and weird. Big body and medium carbonation.

Refrigerated brown 2013 bottle poured into a snifter. Opaque medium brown with small off-white head. Aroma is sweet whiskey, medium body, low carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is whiskey, smokey peat, oak, caramel, some leather, and molasses. Age might round the corners of this one.

Just a huge hit of peaty scotch. A little sweetness on the back end. Cloudy light brown orange Amber with a thin quickly fading off white head. Lots of Scotch. Lots of peat. Glassy smooth. Prune. Date. Fig. Sweet finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter. Holy smokes. Such smoke. All smoke. Light rubber component to it. Light sharpie. Some alcohol noted too. Murky light brown pour. No head. Taste is all lagavulin. Chewy mouthfeel. Peppery alcohol finish with warming in the ears. Mouthfeel is fine but the lagavulin is just too overpowering.

Pours a golden-copper color with white head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of wood and whisky. Medium malt body, quite sweet with dull oak and scotch notes the complement but not overwhelm. Notes: On tap at Aces & Ales (Tenaya), Mar ’17

Bottle: Poured a copper with no head. Sweet sticky nose of booze. Sweet tooth addicts unite. Very tasty but very sweet.

draft in mini snifter, poured a cloudy orange color with no head, aroma was sweet malts and scotch barrel and slight peat. not sure if this is an old keg or not. seemed thin and watery. the flavor was just ok..i mean for a barley wine it should have certain properties and it didn’t do it for me. kind of disappointed. flavor was fine but watery like the scotch and peat mix. but overall wish I would have passed for something else.

Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Whoa! This beer sitting at 11.5% is amazingly smooth, complex, and malty!

Sweet whisky aroma. Dark amber (brown/red) color. Wonderful sweet barleywine flavor with a smokey finish. Something to save for a special occasion.
