Matured in wooden casks of Lagavulin Malt Whiskey, one of the most distinctive malt whisky from the island of Islay, characterized by the strong peaty notes which should blend with the Harvest Ale to give an explosion of flavors.
This fully fermented ale has been brewed by JW Lees as a celebration of the brewers’ art. Harvest Ale can be enjoyed now or laid down like a fine wine for enjoyment to come.

Inveigler's rating

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
Inveigler (371) - Ferndale, Michigan, USA - MAR 31, 2005
Pours burnt golden and syrupy -- swirls in the glass with liquor viscosity. Touch of char in the aroma with some toffee notes and smokiness. Alive and fruity on the tongue ... peat peat peat ... and more peat. At first overwhelming, but then it backs off and settles to the backseat. Sweet and sugary. Overall very nice, but not as good as strait J W Lees.

Refrigerated brown 2013 bottle poured into a snifter. Opaque medium brown with small off-white head. Aroma is sweet whiskey, medium body, low carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is whiskey, smokey peat, oak, caramel, some leather, and molasses. Age might round the corners of this one.

Just a huge hit of peaty scotch. A little sweetness on the back end. Cloudy light brown orange Amber with a thin quickly fading off white head. Lots of Scotch. Lots of peat. Glassy smooth. Prune. Date. Fig. Sweet finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter. Holy smokes. Such smoke. All smoke. Light rubber component to it. Light sharpie. Some alcohol noted too. Murky light brown pour. No head. Taste is all lagavulin. Chewy mouthfeel. Peppery alcohol finish with warming in the ears. Mouthfeel is fine but the lagavulin is just too overpowering.

dnstone (3455) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - MAR 3, 2017
Pours a golden-copper color with white head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of wood and whisky. Medium malt body, quite sweet with dull oak and scotch notes the complement but not overwhelm. Notes: On tap at Aces & Ales (Tenaya), Mar ’17

SHIG (4964) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - DEC 25, 2016
Bottle: Poured a copper with no head. Sweet sticky nose of booze. Sweet tooth addicts unite. Very tasty but very sweet.

draft in mini snifter, poured a cloudy orange color with no head, aroma was sweet malts and scotch barrel and slight peat. not sure if this is an old keg or not. seemed thin and watery. the flavor was just ok..i mean for a barley wine it should have certain properties and it didn’t do it for me. kind of disappointed. flavor was fine but watery like the scotch and peat mix. but overall wish I would have passed for something else.

N3lson1 (1005) - Long Valley, New Jersey, USA - SEP 29, 2016
Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Whoa! This beer sitting at 11.5% is amazingly smooth, complex, and malty!

Sweet whisky aroma. Dark amber (brown/red) color. Wonderful sweet barleywine flavor with a smokey finish. Something to save for a special occasion.

glennmastrange (2897) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - AUG 25, 2016
Bottle, 2004. Heavy malt aromas of roasted, caramel and nutty, light cooked orange and perfume for the hops, moderate leather for the yeast, with tobacco, sherry, prune, and fruitcake in the background. Head is nonexistent, and the color is a very dark burgundy/brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet, then finishes heavily sweet and faintly bitter. Palate is medium to full, syrupy, with no carbonation. A super sweet and savory Barley Wine to be sipped slowly for sure.

VsXsV (4523) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUN 25, 2016
Bottle. Deep hazy amber liquid with minimal off-white head. Aroma of peat, raw sugar, toffee, raisins and dried fruit. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of peat, smoke, raw sugar and light licorice. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Too much barrel character.
