4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
By far the most complex of the different barrel aged versions of this beer I’ve had. Smoke really cuts and complicates the already sweet and complex flavor of the standard. Tons of charred fruit , tar, huge Islay presence. Crazy. v.2008
Bottle to glass. A definite sipper. Light whiskey, wood and light smokiness (peat). Cloudy orange amber pour taste is like aroma then becomes sweeeeet overly sweet which drops this. MetalNHopHead (2257) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - NOV 14, 2017
The Lagavulin variant of Harvest Ale has been one of the finest Barleywines I've had recently, but I'll be damned if it isn't so cohesive that it's tricky to describe. Golden brown pour with a small but uniform head. The peaty whiskey character had been softened through aging, but there's a fair amount of woodiness on the nose. Malty, plummy, and (toasted) sugary character. Plenty of booze warmth and sweetness. This has the feel of a hearty, rich brew. A strong and lovely Barleywine. Draft sample. The beer is a clear gold with a white head of foam. Strong booze and sweet popcorn notes. Grainy and weird. Big body and medium carbonation. weihenweizen (4203) - Charleston, West Virginia, USA - SEP 19, 2017
Refrigerated brown 2013 bottle poured into a snifter. Opaque medium brown with small off-white head. Aroma is sweet whiskey, medium body, low carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is whiskey, smokey peat, oak, caramel, some leather, and molasses. Age might round the corners of this one. sjohnny (686) - - JUL 15, 2017
Just a huge hit of peaty scotch. A little sweetness on the back end. Cloudy light brown orange Amber with a thin quickly fading off white head. Lots of Scotch. Lots of peat. Glassy smooth. Prune. Date. Fig. Sweet finish.

Bottle to snifter. Holy smokes. Such smoke. All smoke. Light rubber component to it. Light sharpie. Some alcohol noted too. Murky light brown pour. No head. Taste is all lagavulin. Chewy mouthfeel. Peppery alcohol finish with warming in the ears. Mouthfeel is fine but the lagavulin is just too overpowering. dnstone (3625) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - MAR 3, 2017
Pours a golden-copper color with white head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of wood and whisky. Medium malt body, quite sweet with dull oak and scotch notes the complement but not overwhelm.

Bottle: Poured a copper with no head. Sweet sticky nose of booze. Sweet tooth addicts unite. Very tasty but very sweet. tmongoose (2504) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - OCT 22, 2016
draft in mini snifter, poured a cloudy orange color with no head, aroma was sweet malts and scotch barrel and slight peat. not sure if this is an old keg or not. seemed thin and watery. the flavor was just ok..i mean for a barley wine it should have certain properties and it didn’t do it for me. kind of disappointed. flavor was fine but watery like the scotch and peat mix. but overall wish I would have passed for something else. Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Whoa! This beer sitting at 11.5% is amazingly smooth, complex, and malty!
