A winner of the Tesco Beer Challenge in 2000, John Willie’s captures the flavours of our most popular draught ale and crams it kicking and screaming into a bottle. Take the lid off and all that feisty flavour glugs out ready to give your tastebuds a good malty smacking.

Bottle. Amber in colour. Malty; slightly roasty malts, caramel, nutty, hint of chocolate. Fruity; citrus orange. Hoppy; grassy & earthy hops. Full bodied. Sweet malty fruity with an earthy dry hop finish. OK. Drinkable. (2009-11)

Premium bitter står der på denne øl. Jo bitter er den også, og på en god og behagelig måde. God fyldig smag, ikke den tynde skarpe bitterhed.

BlackHaddock (7329) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - OCT 14, 2013
Found this 275ml bottle in the cellar of The Crown Inn, Oakengates, while looking for some Red Wine: landlord gave me it. Only a couple of years out of date, opened on 14 Oct 2013, BBD 27 Aug 2011. Poured slowly into a ’Batemans’ badged UK pint sleeve at home. Murky orange/amber with a scummy head. Malty, sweet and stale: I know my digestive system is going to be giving my brain a telling off in the morning. I shouldn’t drink old beers really, but this isn’t too bad and I’ll score it fairly. Hop content tries to counter the malts but fails, this is a malt led brew with the hops playing a minor role, their duties are to stop the beer becoming too sweet and sickly, this they manage without being noticed too much. An ’in date’ bottle would have been better, but this was OK in all aspects, just hope I’m fine tomorrow.

Dark orange-colored beer with a fine white foam. Easy drinkable ale which are not as flat as many other English ales.

Clear amber brown beer. Dry palate. Dry malt with a trace of banana. Balanced by some fairly bitter hop. Dry finish. Bitter linger. Balanced but dull.

MiP (15667) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - JUN 27, 2011
Bottle, 4.5%. Mild fruity aroma. Almost clear copper colour. Rather big, stable off-white head. The flavour is mildly nutty with a rough but subtle bitterness. A little maltiness in the finish.

Koelschtrinker (20398) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 20, 2011
Weich malziger, wenig bitterer Antrunk. Gut! 8/11/11/10/11/11

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK. Hazy apricot, citrus and some rasin aroma. Bright flavour, citrus and apricot come through with a warm clove finish.
