There’s a story about some farm labourers who thought that the reflection of the moon in a pond, not far from our brewery, was a lovely truckle of Lancashire cheese. They tried to rake it out, but ended up falling in. You might find a pint of this stuff just as mesmerising.

tcane7 (1674) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Firkin at Real Ale. One of the highlights of the day. Pours deep brown with tan head and lacing. Nose of molasses, figs, plums, candi sugar.

Cask. Small tan head atop clear dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grape/vinous, some caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some vinous/plum. Medium body, minimal carbonation, some stickiness.

redlight (2318) - Orlando, Florida, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Light molasses and caramelized malts on the nose. Pours dark brown with a thick off white head. Dark fruits, caramel notes with traces of molasses, figs with honey with a spicy sweet finish. Very nice dark sweet and fruity ale.

downender (8693) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 5, 2013
Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Dark brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, chocolate, molasses and liquorice aroma. Flavour had bready malts, a hint of roast, prunes, more chocolate and a moderately bitter finish. Good.

Crosse Keys, Bank 5 Nov 12. JDW festivaløl. Ekstremt dyp brun. Egentlig svart. Raskt utflatende skum. God søt plommearoma. Myk munnfølelse. God syrlig plommesmak med litt sviske & sherrypreg. Tørr fruktig ettersmak.

ManVsBeer (10680) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 12, 2012
Black ale with a creamy light brown head to begin with. Its strength is dominant in all aspects of its character. Has little taste.

Rune (12995) - Tromsø, NORWAY - DEC 2, 2012
We were happy to find this festival ale at Crosse Keys, City. Cask, poured into a nice little one-third pint glass. Low, tan-coloured head to a deep, near black coloured body. Smell of dark malts and dried fruits like prunes. Anise, raisin, prunes and dark bread can be detected in the flavour profile leading to a malt bitter end. Medium bodied. One of the best at JDWs real ale festival. Another one the next day at JDWs Ice Wharf (London, 05.11. and 6.11.2012).

berkshirejohn (6534) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 15, 2012
Cask at the Claude du Vall (JDW), Camberley. Deep chocolate brown with a cherry red glow and a tight tan head; sour fruity aroma; thick and syrupy in the mouth, with rich nutty malts and some sour fruit and milk chocolate; the finish is dry and woody, with soem caramel that just masks the alcohol.

yespr (45906) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - NOV 11, 2012
From cask at Camperdown Place. Pours clearand golden orange with a small white and creamy head. Aroma is toasted malty and light breadish, caramelish towards sweet. Sweet, caramelish and light toasted finish.

Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2012
Cask at JDW. Darkest amber with a light brown head. Burnt caramel and light smokey campfire aroma. More burnt caramel in the taste with a long, evolving dark fruitiness and hints of chocolate and tobacco. Fairly thick but very bloated palate that stretches the flavours too thinly around a vacuum. A few flaws here but a nice strong ale with some complex flavours.
