COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg, special
A style that rarely makes it out of Cologne; the straw-blonde Rhineland classic is top-fermented and then cold-conditioned (or lagered) so it is refreshing and infinitely quaffable. Though made with Lager malts, it is an ale, and so retains a fruity character that is balanced out with bittering hops.

Keg at the brewpub, 28/06/15. Pale golden with a decent off white cap. Nose is light citric rinds, grain, pale malt, touch of bread dough, floral tones. Taste comprises grain, perfumed notes, straw, light bread, lemon drizzle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok if a touch too sweet.

From tap. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is mild grainy. Mild fruity. Crisp hoppy, light grassy and mild citrusy. Bitter and mild lingering fruity finish.

On tap at JW Sweetman, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out light crackery malt and not a whole lot else. Flavour brings light cereal malt and biscuity notes. Nothing very interesting but it’s quite clean. Decent.

Gangstergafje (1349) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - APR 26, 2015
Nice golden color and almost no foam. It appears as a regular pilsner. But that is just a disguise. As soon as you smell the beer, you no you at gonna have a good time. The beer is bitter, sweet and sour, al mixed in a citrusy hop aroma of an IPA. As soon as the beer flows trough your mind, al your prior impressions of ’just a pilsners’ are gone. The beer tastes like a proper IPA, a perfect IPA even. The beer is slightly less bitter than most IPA’s. This really makes the refreshing hop flavor pop out.

Tap, gold pour, white head, nose is lacking, taste is mild, some lemon, not much else

Yellow appearance, medium head. Semi sweet, medium hops intensity. Not outstanding. On tap at Sweetman brewpub in Dublin.

Great pale ale with a hoppy nose and a butter finish. Not a kölsch but a good beer. Recommended.

BeerViking (5132) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 26, 2014
Tap at the brewpub, golden and lagery at first, then the earthy bitterness cuts in, making it rather unusual for a Kölsch, definitely in a good way.

3.2
Erzengel (9756) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - APR 29, 2014
On tap at the brewpub. The beer starts smooth, slightly floral. The mainpart is Kölsch-typical smooth, a bit light in body, hints of sweetness. The aftertaste is smooth, slightly sweet, floral with hints of bitterness.
Very floral for a Kölsch, not bad. 12/12/10/10

On tap at the brewpub. Thought this one was too sweet and tough to finish by end.
