Very good black IPA, in fact one of the best ones I've ever tasted, not as harsh and bitter as most, but more subtle and smooth. Kaapse is a truely good brewery and here they prove it again. john44 (3202) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 27, 2017
Draught at GBBF 2017, Olympia, London, Aug 2017 - Opaque black in colour. Good creamy beige head. Malty; roasty malts, dark chocolate, liquorice, caramel. Fruity; grapefruit citrus. Hoppy; good hop bitterness, piney hops. Bitter roast malty citrus fruity throughout. Good balance. Liked this. Good stuff. Not extreme; a very drinkable BIPA. Bottle from the Rice Boat, Cambridge. Dark brown, slightly translucent, with a foamy khaki head. Low aroma, but what I do detect is enticing: chocolate, sarsaparilla, liquorice, a touch of yeast extract. The pungent, grainy rye is prominent as well. And it’s even more prominent in the sweet, spicy initial taste. Hoppy bitterness takes over in the latter part of the sip, through to the long finish with salt liquorice and bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. It’s a really good beer, although maybe the prominence of the rye is slight overkill in an already flavourful style. CacheManyHose (749) - HONG KONG - MAY 8, 2017
Bottle from Brewcraft. Pours a dark opaque cola colour with a very fluffy beige head that dissipates somewhat into a fizzy foam. Smells of pale toasted cereals, dried fruit, dark roasty/burnt malt, moderate sweetness, apple skin and fig, strong esters of paint thinner (not in a bad way) and faint banana, bit of raisin/banana bread ans biscuit, spice, dark chocolate, burnt coffee bitterness. Taste has dark burnt malt, mineral porter bitterness. Taste has more straight-up dark malt than the nose, which has dark as well as pale toasted malt. Body is toasty, fluffy with a burnt/stony bitterness, somewhat watery. On the thin side. IPA characteristics are not too evident - this is deeply bitter, but in a burnt coffee/dark malt way. The dark malt, fruit, esters and spice in the nose are nice though. Enjoyable but not so good that I’d need to get it again.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Dull opaque dark brown pour - sort of hazy. Super fizzy light tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate and earthy/fruity hops. Like a cake with dried fruit or something. Interesting but not my favorite. Taste is very bitter coffee and grass, with burnt coffee malt after. Very bubbly palate, which I don’t really like. Not bad but pretty muddled. Wouldn’t get again. Bottle. Red to black body with small beige hear. Amazing aroma of pralines, dark chocolate, citruses, licorice, plums in liqueur, roasted malts. Taste is prominently dry, moderately bitter. Strongly roasted, dark caramel, chocolate, touch of zest. Medium body, high carbonation, a bit sticky texture.
Good one, but a bit unbalanced, harsh.

Dark brown body with a medium brown head. Aroma is malty, bitter cocoa, some pine.Taste is sweet and medium bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture.
