Bottle from the Beerstore. First off I need to commend Kaimai Brewing on their awesome packaging, one of the most professionally presented NZ craft bottles I’ve seen. Pours a coke like colour with a good three finger head which resides a little on sitting. Weird aroma on the nose, quite skunky hay like. Thin mouth feel with a too high carbonation. I was expecting a little more from this beer and feel a little let down. TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 12, 2010
Bottle. A cola-like dark brown in the glass. Lots of roasted malt on the nose, with dark chocolate, tobacco, and smoky. The abundance of characters in the aroma is matched in the flavour. The palate is a touch grainy, surprisingly light for 6.5%, but with a nice dryness in the finish. A top beer this. 17thfloor (2444) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 27, 2010
Bottle. What a gorgeous package. Gusher! Pours dark cola-like, slick and shinny but not totally clear with a tall, gushing, light tan foamy head. Most certainly a light smokey aroma, decadent roast, creamy and full but somewhat light, light floralness. Flavor is the same, a bit fuller and richer, same light smokiness and distinct cola notes, nice bit of acidity, long round plummy aftertaste. Medium/full bodied, lively carbonation. creamy and smooth. Wish it wasn’t a gusher because this could be world-class. bozoNZ (784) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - APR 20, 2010
Better than the Golden. Coke like, reddish hues. Head disappates very quickly. Slight smokey notes, hints of tobacco too. Hints at chocolate, char notes also. A touch soapy on the mid palate but dries with that tobacco finish. Quite complex but very drinkable....
