25-09-2017; bottle; at home (bought somewhere in Bratislava, Slovakia). The beer looks delicious. The beer is dark brown in the dark. Strong light reveals a coppery reddish brown color. There is a nice haziness in the beer. On top of the beer a nice thick layer of light brown foam is formed. Foam retention is rather low. The thick layer of foam disappears rather quickly, leaving a thin beige drape. The smell of the beer is nice. It is a tiny bit to weak though. I smell some nice malts. They give aromas of some syrup and liquorice, but more aromas of chocolate and coffee. They aren't to strong. There also is a nice fresh hoppy touch. The taste is a bit stronger and nicer. There are nice malty flavours, reminding me a bit of stout. There are flavours of chocolate, some coffee, some caramel. It is nice and dark, sweet with a nice toasty bitter edge. I like it. There is also a nice hoppy flavour. This gives a nice fruitiness to the beer. It is well balanced. I also taste a touch of oak wood, which goes along well with the beer. The palate of the beer is nice. Medium body, silky smooth texture and medium low carbonation. The finish of the beer is nice. There are some nice malty sweets there, along with some nice chocolate, coffee and fruity hops. All in all, a nice beer. I like it.

(Draught at Piovarsky Klub, Prague, 19 July 2008) Very dark brown colour with brief, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with lots of chocolate, cocoa and a nice dry bitternes in the finish. Very well balanced dunkel.

1L bottle via Cuso. Dark ruby pour with some central brown tone. Thick spongy tan head. Nose of red wine mixed with sweet dark malt. Upfront cereal tone is quickly overwhelmed by wine infused oakyness. Tart center with a loitering finish. Body is medium and short-lived. If there are any hops in this dunkel they have been consumed by the wet oak / wine bittering. A very nice change of pace. D’akujem vám!

japi (159) - Neubrandenburg, GERMANY - OCT 15, 2011
A dark brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The aroma is absolutely similar to a cup of coffee. The taste is malty with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. The finish is bitter-sweet. A good one...!

Bottle, 330 ml, at home. Many thanks to MisoW! Poured into a lager glass, ABV 5.5% Pours a very dark brown, almost black beer, with something more than two fingers of light beige head. Foam is creamy and thick, with very good retention and after it finally collapses to one third of its size, it leaves medium thick lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts but mainly chocolate, lots and lots of it, sweet and milky. Taste begins with lots of coffee and a light bitterness, continues with milky sweet chocolate and returns back to coffee, which lingers for quite long on the aftertaste too, together with its bitterness. Very nice! Medium thin body, low carbonation, maybe too low actually, it could use a bit more. Overall a really nice beer, maybe it’s because I haven’t had a black lager in a while, but whichever the case I enjoyed this very much.
