3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at 2nd Anniversary. Pours black with almost no head. Aroma is mostly coffee grounds. Taste is lots of coffee, chocolate, bourbon barrel and a hint of maple syrup. Rich, full and silky palate. On its own merits, this beer is delicious. Rook Coffee is by far my favorite in the area and it comes through in this beer. My only slight disappointment is that the coffee overwhelms some of the nuances that I loved so much in the original bottled version.
This is the best out of Bourbon cocoa and coffee. Bottle thanks to Seth pours like black oil little to no carbonation. Same black strap molasses flavor from the base beer, intensified coffee flavors and a more viscous mouthfeel. PhillyCraft (7405) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2016
Bottle, pours dark black with small brown head and not much lacing. Aromas and flavor are big on over roasted coffee, cocoa, bourbon, and vanilla extract. Medium to fuller mouthfeel. Nice stuff but a bit hot for me at 13 percent. j12601 (12698) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - FEB 28, 2016
At James’ for his 12k tasting. Pours a deep brown to black, with a thin tan head. Roast, a bit of old coffee, chocolate. Medium-bodied, roast, a bit of green pepper, cocoa, chocolate. Long wood, roast, a touch of vanilla, boozy. koleminer20 (3704) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - SEP 11, 2015
From notes. Enjoyed at the hotel for a tasting after Great Taste on August 08. 750 mL bottle. The pour on this baby is a thick and viscous black with a dark brown cap of head that fades to a collar leaving no lace. The aroma is wonderful. There is a ton of coffee up front, before it mellows into roasted malts and a great chocolate. The barrel comes through on the back end with a great bourbon and a lovely vanilla addition. The flavor mimics this. The coffee it a little more dominant, but the barrel kicks in next with the oak and vanilla to really make it smooth. The bourbon heat and a little chocolate come in at the finish. The mouth feel is a little light, but the carbonation really helps it coat and stick around. Damn. The finish is lingeringly coffee roast and a hint of vanilla and bourbon. This is a damn good stout! ebone1988 (1972) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - AUG 8, 2015
#400. Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon barrel. Appearance is thick, black, brown head. Taste is coffee, chocolate chips, bourbon barrel, wow. Mouthfeel is not as thick as I like, but carbonation is on point and it’s oily. Overall, wowzers.

650ml bottle. This is really nice stuff, chocolatey and surprisingly dry for an impy. SHIG (4962) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - MAR 29, 2015
Bottle thanks to Dmac shared at Anchorage Feb ’15 Tasting: Poured a black with bubble head. Aroma is bourbon, dark fruits, coffee bean, sweet malts. Taste is very roasted espresso coffee and malts, with hints of bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, and oak. My favorite of all the variances. jandd1983 (4390) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - JAN 9, 2015
Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of espresso, roasted malts, a hint of vanilla and some chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with chocolate, espresso, caramel, vanilla, wood with a nice alcohol burn. Wow. JohnnyJ (5570) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 24, 2014
Bottle. Black pour, with a thin tan head. Roasty, black coffee, chocolate, bourbon, some raisin, notes of vanilla, and somewhat boozy. Doesn’t feel as hot as the regular version, nice sipping stout. burg326 (5489) - Florida, USA - OCT 12, 2014
Poured a black color with aromas of coffee, light chocolate, vanilla, and more coffee. Flavors are the same with tons of coffee. Solid stout overall but almost the same as the other variants.
