Tasted at the late night tasting after the Grand Tasting at RBWG Asheville. Pours thick, oily black with a thin tan head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is tons of vanilla bourbon, with traditional milk and dark chocolate malty imperial stout. The flavor is really more focused on the bourbon, fairly sweet vanilla, fudge brownie, really bourbon forward. The body is full with light carbonation and a long bourbon and brownie finish. Very nice.

Semi-opaque dark brown, small beige head. Brownie batter, chocolate, toffee, hints of maple, and malt. Sweet initially but finishes really woody and bitter. Low carb, full bodied, and smooth.

No idea how I never rated this. But anyway, 4th of July eve, pours out pretty much black with a moderate tan head. Aroma is of deep roast, vanilla bean, light sweetness, coffee grounds, brownie mix, some oak, light bourbon, earth, soil, some mild syrup. Taste is complex, smooth, but appropriately full mouthfeel, undercooked brownie, vanilla bean, some cocoa, light coffee grounds, bourbon, oak, some dried fruit, syrup, some light alcohol, more chocolate syrup. This is just really well done.

Bottle thanks to Kevin. Pours dark brown with no head. Marshmallow, light roast coffee. Brownie batter. Viscous mouthfeel, low carbonation.

2017 set (thanks, jamesy!). This was my favorite variant of the whole set. The best parts of ANTEAD (huge, full mouthfeel, bourbon/chocolate/coffee flavor, and impressively clean finish) are all present, but the vanilla adds a lot. There’s a strong, natural marshmallow flavor that accentuates both the bourbon and coffee flavor and the chocolate sweetness. Phenomenal.

Thanks Huhzubendah for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing pitch black with latte foam lacing. The nose shows a light vanilla background but mostly brightens the dark chocolate notes to milk chocolate. The palate is full bodied and lightly carbonated with no alcoholic heat. Flavors of milk chocolate with a roasted malt bitterness. Weakest of the ANTEAD series but still rich and forward.

2015 ANTEAD set. Dark brown body with a thin, beige collar of broken bubbles. Aromas of oak, bourbon, prevalent vanilla. Sweet, vanilla forward, delicious. A terrific imperial stout series.

Bottle thanks to Team North Jersey. Pours black with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong vanilla bean, wood, roast, cocoa. Thick body, chewy, roast, similar flavors to nose, nice sweetness, very nice.

From notes. Had this one at Doug’s house on August 1. 750 mL bottle, 2014 vintage. The pour is black as night. It’s thick and heavy with a subtle ring of dark/medium brown head that leaves no trace. The aroma is surprisingly sweet. There is a great vanilla. Lots of charred oak and a light bourbon that bland with a roasted malt. It’s not overly complex, but the important factors are there. The flavor is excellent. There is more vanilla and bourbon that come out. The charred oak balanced the roasted malts and offset the sweetness just enough. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly sweet vanilla and bourbon finish. This thing is just beautiful.

Shared bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt, and a touch of coffee. Very nice.

Bottle shared. Black with an amazing dark brown but fairly short lived head. Aroma of huge bourbon and vanilla upfront with roast, chocolate, oak barrel and booze. Flavour is heavy sweet and light bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
