COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

APPEARANCE- dark yellow with an orange hue. Light head and slight lacing. NOSE- Fruity burst in my nose. Clearly citra or citra-like hops abound. FLAVOR- follows nose at first sip. Then the complexity starts. Slight bitterness comes into play, and solid backbone to support the heavily hopped brew.

This brew is a murky orange color with a medium off-white head that dissipates gradually. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of citrus, piney hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, resiny hops and caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a tropical fruit and hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

It’s a little hard to believe that I haven’t rated this, a beer that I’ve been craving and enjoying for 5 years. I remember standing at the front tasting room with Mike Kane when nobody had heard of the brewery yet and him saying he’d have loved to make a double IPA, but he couldn’t get the hops yet, so he brewed Head High. I love them both, but in terms of bang for the ABV buck, I’ll take HH all the time. Wonderful tropical citrus blend, hazy orange with fluffy white head. Crisp and clean. To have this available most of the time in the area is a privilege.

Pretty cloudy orange beer, creamy off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, mango, passion fruit, some grapefruit. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet malty start, some caramel, mango, grapefruit, citrus, bitter but pretty gentle. Aftertaste: grapefruit and citrus, little piny, lemony, bit resinous, more grapefruit, lovely tropical fruit notes, pineapple and mango.
