Tidal Series.
A favorite morning stop of ours since we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago is Rook Coffee Roasters of Monmouth County; conveniently located just around the corner from the brewery. They roast and brew their coffees with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that we focus on here at Kane. We couldn’t think of a better group of like minded people to work with on a collaborative project. The result is Morning Bell, our imperial milk porter brewed with their dark roast Sumatra coffee. We added a healthy amount of milk sugar to an already complex, dark malt bill to sweeten and balance the bold flavors and roasty bitterness of the coffee. The result of this collaboration is a full bodied porter with big bold flavors and remarkable smoothness.

Malt: Marris Otter, Munich, Roasted Barley, Medium Crystal & Chocolate

Boise Imperial Stout Tasting. Deep dark brown color with a thin brown cap. Nose is roasty, mildly sweet. Rich espresso in the nose and into the taste... A big ole milk stout/Porter. Sweet and roasty, a little ash. Great coffee flavor.

Hot damn! Morning Bell is one hell of a way to kick off the day. Pour is near-black with cocoa-colored suds. Gorgeous aroma with equally large doses of Sumatra and lactose. It translates beautifully into the flavor. Rich, bold coffee notes with some dark chocolate influence. The milk sugar sweetness cuts the bitterness without dampening any of the bright, fresh roastiness. Hints of vanilla and nuttiness. I’m going to need more from Kane’s Bell series. This is just too good.

(Thanks, Ed! "Ed5388") Bottle. A- Coffee, subtle floral notes, roasty, slighly bitter, dry cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Coffee, chocolate, roasty, slightly bitter, very subtle blueberry. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What an excellent damn beer this was. The cap was on so tight I broke my opener and thought this better be delicious. It was. Everything was perfectly balanced and a beautiful beer in every way. Hard to find anything wrong with this and I usually am a tough rater.

Pours black with light brown head. A strong coffee and malt aroma. A strong coffee taste with hints of chocolate, dark fruits, grains, and malts. A lingering coffee aftertaste.

750-ml bottle from brewery, picked up 2/20. Hype train was at 100mph on this so I had to open one. Pours black with hefty tan head. Aroma of coffee and vanilla and ash. Flavor is - umami! This beer coats the tongue and engages every part of it with velvety, chocolatey coffee love. I don’t like milk stouts and porters as a rule, but here is one that doesn’t make me think of spoiled milk at all. This beer probably has the most satisfying mouthfeel of any beer I’ve had - sweet and almost but not quite salty. The hype train has a new passenger.

Extra from cpetrone-thanks, Chris! Pours dark black with a translucent brown rim and fast fading coffee crema head. About a year old? I generally like to drink coffee brew fresher, but I lost track of this one. Has held up well though. Nose is freshly ground coffee beans, slight greenness. Taste is old coffee, but not offensive, with a sweet round middle from the lactose and a solid porter base. Tasty, and I’m sure this is amazing fresh.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, medium creamy tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong roast, coffee bean, dark chocolate. Thick mouth, bitter roast, cream, sugary malt, lingering bitterness, very nice.
