UPDATED: FEB 3, 2015 Draft at the brewery. Black with a dark mocha head. Roasted malts, coffee bitterness, earthy hops, dark chocolate with big pine. Rich with a sticky finish and a hint of booze. I really love this. --- Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at brewery. Creamy imperial stout that’s intriguingly hop forward. Ton of pine coming through for me on latest batch. I would have thought I’d be put off but instead I liked it a lot - it was a good earthy hoppiness, piney but not with hop bitterness. 2013 batch, drunk side by side, considerably more mellow, with no pine at all, but more pronounced bitter chocolate. Overall 2014 batch is sweet, spikily complex, chocolate with hint of coffee and that pine.

@ the source. Pours black with a ring of tan head. Aroma of bitter roast predominantly. Taste brings a fair bit of nuttiness along with the astringent roast. A very different beast from most imperial stouts. Really don’t get any chocolate here. Big time roasty bitterness here. Palate is thicker and slightly sticky. A slight acidity in here too. Finish bribe more roast and a slight lingering bitterness. While very different, I kind of enjoyed this. Way off the beaten path.

On tap at the mexican food factory. Aroma is deep roast chocolate and iron. Pours black with a very small dark brown head. Taste is roast coffee, very bitter deep dark chocolate, and slight iron. Very dark and very roasty. Strong RIS. No sign of the booze either. Bravo Kane.

Sample at MFF, poured pitch black with beautiful caramel colored head. Aroma and flavor are rich ad toasty with dark chocolate, roasted wood and malt, coffee, and barrel. Lingering flavor in this bold stout. Medium bodied, with a slightly sticky mouth. Nice

2013 draft at the brewery. Pours dark black and thick with a nice string dark brown head. Very roasty aroma. On the palate there is some chocolate and hop bitterness. Very rich and only a touch sweet. Perfect winter stout.

Draft at 2nd anniversary party. Pours out black with a small brown head. Aroma is of lots of chocolate, medium roast coffee, syrup and some light dry alcohol notes. Taste is complex, medium roast coffee, chocolate syrup, sticky mouthfeel, light dried fruits, mild soy and some lightly noticeable alcohol on the finish.

On tap at Barcade Jersey City at the 2nd Anniversary Party. I got the first pour of this keg, and its unfiltered nature came through strong with a cloudy, brown/black pour with a dark brown head. Aroma was dark chocolate and coffee toastyness. Attack was smooth and solid, well-backed bitterness with malt and with some well-placed hops. Big, full mouthfeel, smooth chocolate finish. Wow! I’m a big fan of this one.

On tap at Barcade Jersey City, clean lines. Kane’s first anniversary party. Beer pours black, with slight head retention. Aroma is toasted malt and alcohol. Taste is sharper than expected, with a full body but with some more-sour-than-needed edges. Solid beer, still; just missing something - perhaps too little flavor to balance out the ABV.
