UPDATED: AUG 26, 2015 Tap at Karbach. Black pour, light tan head. Decent retention. Aroma is huge bourbon, oak, vanilla and light cocoa. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, light cocoa and some fruity espresso notes. Thinner mouthfeel being a porter, and well carbonated. Moderate alcohol burn. Leaves some lace in the glass. Very good! Dark brown pour with a nice light tan head. Bourbon and chocolate malt nose. Chocolate malt taste, bourbon and chocolate then bourbon with a bit of a harsh boozy and slight turpentine finish. Fin (10473) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 25, 2015
Bottle tasting courtesy of Colin at Craft Clerkenwell (thanks Colin!) Friday 24th April 2015 Pours very dark brown almost black with a tan head. Lovely bourbon nose not to pushy, warming alcohol a little more in mouth, some beefy stock picked up on the nose. Soft in the mouth but despite what I was expecting I did not get the full on thick mouthfeel and anticipated velvetyness. In fact the bourbon was a little ragged in the mouth and came across more than I expected and this also tasted a little thinner, also I was really surprised that it was nigh on 11%. In the mouth there is a smooth vanilla and wood get together going on and some chocolate and coffee have a little dalliance, I liked this and wanted to be ’wowed’ but in the end though it was just good as opposed to being great Thanks again Colin for letting me try this. Bottle split at Pedro leaving drinks, from an IP trade, as 007 24/04/15.
Pitch black with a decent dirty tan head that retains well.
Nose is rich roast, spice, bourbon strains, charr, treacle toffee, chocolate.
Taste comprises cocoa powder, big bourbon strokes, treacle toffee, charr, chocolate fudge, malt.
Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a subtle booze streak.
Decent BA impy, bourbon not so subtle at times but a pretty balanced affair all told. Scopey (14505) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 24, 2015

The taste is rich, bitter, roasted malt, earth, cocoa, toasty coconut, mild acidity, booze, wood, oily, chewy malt, vanilla, bourbon, light acidity and charred wood with a warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Solid BA impy.

This beer is fantastic. Flavors are chocolate, roasty, malt, bourbon, dark fruits and just plain fantastic. This beer was way better than most if not all bourbon barrel beers I have tried. BCBS and all the other posers should get in line. Total home run. WIsh I would have bought all of them. Nice job Karbach! Again ! coachd (802) - Missouri, USA - APR 11, 2015
Aroma has cherry, oak, bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar and booze. Pours out black with a light tan head that stays around for a long time. The taste brings out everything that I said in the aroma, except it tastes way boozier than it smells. Palate is good; overall this is very well made. This brewery is hit and miss with me, but they got this one right. Interesting style, great execution. Definitely worth a try. A tad boozy; perhaps I should have aged it longer. sjohnny (626) - - MAR 15, 2015
Toffee malt aroma. Pours black with a thin, quickly fading dark tan head. Medium bodied. Candy toffee sweet. A slight coffee bitterness on the finish. Lots of boozy warming. Very tasty. RickTStiles (826) - Houston, Texas, USA - FEB 17, 2015
pours very dark brown with lasting beige head and dense lacing. aroma is sweet, woody, chocolaty and bourbontastic. This beer is pulling no punches. taste has notes of wood, wood and wood with vanilla, chocolate, cocoa powder, bourbon, and some wood. finish is sticky sweey and boozy as hell. alcohol is prominent throughout. Probably the best Texas beer I’ve yet had. PartyFowle (954) - - FEB 3, 2015
Bottle into a big snifter. Dark chocolate brown, thin yet dark. Minuscule head the color of cocoa powder recedes quickly. The nose: chocolate syrup, fresh coconut, a hint of banana, a splash of ethanol, a bit of plum and low-shelf whiskey. Coconut in the flavor mixes with plum, vanilla, alcohol, cocoa nibs and wood chips. A very smooth blend with lots of barrel character and just enough stout to back it up. Medium body. Soft and velvety, with gentle bubbles and just a bit of heat. Caressing. Overall: fruity, with good hits of cocoa and oaky bourbon. Solidly done.
