Shot glass showing honey gold with no head.
The nose shows a lot of intense pineapple, tangerine and mango.
The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated with a moderate intensity of fruit, pine on the mid palate, and a sharp IPA bitterness on the finish. gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - SEP 11, 2015
500 ml bottle at home. Pours hazy light orange with a thick fluffy head. Nice refined pine nose, typically Nelson Sauvin. Body is rather harsh pine of the sme hops, and getting unagreeably bitter and dry towards the end. Taste is very hard bitters, green unripe appel, and even sour yoghurt. Hurts the stomach. willisread (3803) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 4, 2015
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2016 Bottle shared at AA thanks to Eric! Great tropical nose, light bodied with too much bitterness on the finish. Kind of old school. Tap at Watering Hole. Clear golden color with a nice soapy white head that hangs around. Big Nelson aroma with papaya, mango and passion fruit all over the nose. Doesn’t have the nose of a typical Imperial IPA (which is a good thing imo). Taste is more typical with some sweet malt and piney and resiny notes that stand out. Easy to drink and hides the ABV very well. Bitter finish with a little sweetness. Yorker (2117) - Holstebro, DENMARK - AUG 27, 2015
66 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy golden amber with a white head that leaves quite a bit of lacing. Aroma and flavour are flowers, peach, pine, and caramel - with a bitter finish. tarmok (1434) - Tartu, ESTONIA - AUG 24, 2015

Bottle shared by Joes. Clear orange golden color, medium sized thick white to off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, strong hops, firm bitter hops, wood-ish. Taste malts, wood-ish again, heavy bitter, heavy sticky resin and piney bitter hops. I love these kind of beers and I also love (hoppy) barley wines which this almost is. Sort of a combination between a resinous piney IIPA and a hoppy barley wine. Full body, medium to full carbonation. Nice! fonefan (52351) - VestJylland, DENMARK - AUG 18, 2015

[ As Karl Strauss Big Barrel Double IPA ].
Clear medium orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, pale malt, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, wood, orange - citrus. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, sweet malt, hops, orange, peach. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft.
Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a medium off white head. The aroma is highly malty with biscuity and ripe stone fruit notes. Orange marmalade notes. Sweet malty and somewhat alcoholic flavor with notes of crackers and biscuits. Faint hoppy notes. Some citrus and orange. More U.S. Barley Wine like than DIPA. Still very nice. 65cl bottle, served in Shaker glass. Pours dark orange with white head. No lacing. Both aroma and taste are basically tropical fruit and caramel. Too sweet on the palate and the alcohol is easy to notice. Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation. At first seems quite good but it is disappointing overall (drinkable, though). Maybe the other Big Barrel Double IPAs are better than this one. solvaris (167) - - JUL 25, 2015
