COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.” According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and they’re planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22’s. Specs: Color 15.4 SRM ALC 9.0% IBU 90 PLATO 20

Strong grapefruit and guava aroma. Great flavors with a full, think body. Maybe too syrupy? But overall, quite good.

Pite przeterminowane. Betonowa piana, zmetnione. Edit. Po wypiciu całego wali w czambo. Polecam.

Bottle, 65cl. Hazy golden with a frothy/foamy offwhite head. Aromas of tropical hops, resin, caramel. Medium bodied, soft bodied. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Astringent hoppy flavors into a stinging rustic finish.

From the tap into a growler from downtown location: Poured a golden honey color with a tiny formation of foamy head which did leave behind a trace of lace. From the nose, there are is an assortment of hops giving a combination of citrus and sticky green hop. The flavor comes across well with a perfect balance between malt and hop while the hops tend to dominate a little more. Minor hints of lime citrus and ginger, however, this isn’t a double IPA I would mention as a top contender of the category but meets the standard requirement I have.

I really like the Nelson Sauvin hop. The grape taste is great. It works so weel with the hop bitterness. This is more of a regular IPA than a double.

Poured a hazed amber with no head. Nose is big on citrus and pine hops. Very pungent. Taste is slightly harsh bitterness, moderate hop flavor, nice medium light body showcases the hops rather than worrying about balancing them. Without question the best Strauss beer i’ve had.

The Sauvin tropical flavors and aromas are big and center. Yes grape and vine aromas too. Backed up solidly by a more standard west coast hop profile - citrus and pine, this is a solid brew. A bit too sweet but otherwise very good.

An amber IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, nice pungeant c-hops with loads of tropical fruits, menthol, alcohol warmth. In mouth, a good intense double IPA with loads of malts, herbal hops, meaty notes, pink grapefruits. Intense and rich. On tap at Ballast Point 13 Anniv. Beer Festival , Oct. 24 2009.

Big thanks to turboedtwo for this bottle. It’s a gorgeous pour with a deep clear amber body with a steady stream of bubbles feeding a rocky off-white head that shows excellent retention and lacing. The aroma is a combination of citrus fruits, pine and white grapes. There is some sweet malty aromas and a hint of earthy spices as well. The taste has an even spicier character up front with some pine resin and the distinctive Nelson Sauvin chardonnay-type thing going on. The finish is sticky with pine resin hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and sticky with moderate carbonation. I don’t have much experience with this brewery but I really enjoy this one. It’s a great DIPA with a distinctive spicy character that makes it fairly unique.
