COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come. According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and theyre planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22s. Specs: Color 15.4 SRM ALC 9.0% IBU 90 PLATO 20

On tap at Karl Strauss Beer Gardens in the Mira Mesa area. Dark amber color. Big, thick and lacy beige head formation. Kind of a subdued aroma of caramelized sugars, crystal malt and a medium hops spicyness. Flavor is a lot less bitter than I expected for a double. Notes of cinnamon and caramel. Hops stand out more in the finish. Not bad.

Im not sure if this is the correct beer. I had an Imperial IPA on tap at PP Carlsbad. Dark amber pour, off-white head. Citrus, grapefruit, floral hops, caramel malt, and some biscuits. Well balanced and not too overwhelming.

Clear orange color/ fleeting beige head. Grape fruit rind, tooty fruity hop aromas. medium body. Good grapefruit and dank grassy hop flavors on a solid caramel base. Nice bittersweet finish.

Picked up this bottle while in San Diego. Pours copper with a white head. Nice strong hoppy aroma with lots of citrus. The 9% ABV is well hidden without being overly sweet. Great citrus flavor. Nice work.

Bottle. Pours with a clear orange body and a massive off-white head. Aroma of orange, light tropical fruits, caramel, a bit of pine and a touch of lemon. Taste is herbal and citrus (lemon). Odd battle with the nelson and the warrior. Caramel, stuffing (of all things). Bitter, clean finish, but odd flavors. Dry. Creamy carbonation.

On tap at Karls joint. Poured with a very nice golden orangy hue with a killer citrus/hoppy nose. Very interesting combination of hops that really smoothes out the high abv, which is barely noticable. Has a great long lasting finish and was quite a nice IIPA.

Pours clear golden with thick, solid sheets of lacy head. The nose was spicy. The flavors, they were hoppy, spicy, piney, and a bit resinous... the body was thick and syrupy, yet not too much so...the hops tend to turn grassy...the alcohol is pronounced, yet not really hot...theres a stinging wetness thoug...a residual bitter metalicness of the hops, but really...in an overall setting...its not too shabby for the overrated style of double fucknut IPA.

Picked this puppy up from a bottle shop outside San Diego, and boy is it tasty. Pours a cloudy honey amber with a mid-size head, and packs a knockout punch of an aroma - intense citrus and piney hops, countered by an ice-cream sundaes worth of caramel. Tons of ingredients in here. Flavor is equally punchy - sticky sweet, barely kept dry by all the hops and the high ABV. If youre a lover of palate-bombs, this is up your alley. If you like em mild, find something else. I thought it was dang tasty.
