When checkered blackball flags dot the California coastline, experienced surfers migrate to advanced breaks where strangers to the sport dare not. Blackball is a Belgian-inspired India Pale Ale with a robust West Coast hop profile. Belgian ale yeast, coriander, and Curacao lend a fruity and spicy character for an ale bolder than your average IPA. A blend of New Zealand and Cascade hops add a vibrant floral aroma and clean citrus hop bitterness that lingers through its crisp, dry finish. Drink up while it’s young, heavily hopped IPA’s are best enjoyed fresh.

Bomber from Albertsons in San Diego. Spicy, peppery and earthy aroma. Clear yellowish orange with an initially foamy white head that dies down quickly. More spice and peppercorn flavors along with a nice bitter hop bite. Hops are citrusy with a bit of pith on the edges that sticks to the tongue. The Belgian yeast influence is noticeable but not overpowering. Some sweetness and a nice peach flavor in there to balance the spice and bitter, but those ultimately win out. A very interesting, tasty and drinkable IPA.

Poured from the bomber. Aroma is of noble hops, earthy and Spicy. Flavor is bitter, and finishes dry. Cloudy appearance with a thick head and good lacing. One of my first beers I’ve noticed a metallic taste, butI don’t think it detracts much.

Bottle. Pours gold with a bit of white head. Aroma is fruity, orange, yeasty, bit of spice. Light bodied with a faint bitterness, pretty solid.

Bottle, pours golden straw color with thin, bubbly head. Slightly fruity, citrus ester aroma (banana). Malty start with a lovely ease into balanced hops, leading to sweet and tiny bit spicy orange peel curaçao dry finish. Perfectly balanced. Great palate.

Bomber poured into my Stone IPA glass. The aroma is huge, that luscious smell of huge hops along with unique Belgian yeast. Appearance is very clear and amber. Taste is fantastic! This is the best beer I’ve had in months! Great citrus hop flavor with style and finish. I know Belgian IPA is not its own unique category, but this might be one of my favorites I’ve ever had in this style.

Pours yellow with a white head. Aroma is mostly yeast with a bit of citrus hops and alcohol. Flavor is similar, with a nice kick from the coriander. Medium bodied. Decent beer.

Smells great; citrusy, piney, and slightly tropical hop notes. Flavor is dominated by Belgian yeast, which isn’t well blended with the hop flavours.
