Draft at the Carlsbad location. A black beer with a red shine under a tan head. The aroma is very malty combined with notes of bread and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with a light acidic edge from the roasted malt, since it is rather roated, and has a dry, bitter, and roasted finish. 28 IBU’s. MIne was stated at 4.4% ABV. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 21, 2014

Sampled at the Carlsbad location on 11/30/06: Pours a mostly opaque with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Toasty grainy malty aroma has some light fruit notes and a lager yeast profile. Body starts effervescent and lightly sweet with some dark caramel and a touch of raisins toward a bready dark German malty finish. Pretty true to style.
