Very dark brown; lingering small brown head. Rich and smooth...easy drinking, rich malts but not overpowering. Creamy, great balance of rich roasted malts, cocoa, grains but with a slight sour fruit finish. On tap at Churchill’s. User134089 (1644) - - FEB 29, 2012
Poured from a draft into a pint glass at Karl Strauss Brewery in La Jolla, Calif. Color was black. About one finger of head. Bubbly cloudy lacing. Healthy amount of film that was evenly spread out on the glass.
Smelled of toffee and chocolate malts.
Tasted similar to the nose with chocolate and toffee malts leading the way. Also some caramel in there. Good tasting beer.
Medium body. Creamy slick texture. Average carbonation Smooth finish.
I really liked this beer. It was smooth from the get-go and was perfect for my mood. AbeerWolf (27) - USA - JAN 30, 2008
Smooth, rich flavor that tapers off after the first couple of sips. Aroma is slightly hoppy with the chocolate malts coming through after. Body is lively but not overwhelming. Good overall beer that is perfect for a warm San Diego evening. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUN 30, 2007
On tap at Karl Strauss. Hazy brown with no head. Rich chocolate, nutty, and roasty aroma and taste with a clean crisp finish. I thought this one was pretty good. Dogbrick (14391) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 24, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2010 Sample at the Universal City location. Pours a dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of malt and nuts. Medium body with a sweet malty character along with notes of caramel and nuts, plus a bit of hops. The finish is sweet caramel and malt and lingers a bit. Above average overall.

Tasted on draft @ the brewpub in downtown San Diego. Pretty beer to look @ with good lacing. I thought this was a really malty porter when I tasted it. Oats, sweet malt, with little bitterness present. goldtwins (4319) - Nesconset, New York, USA - DEC 27, 2006
Hazy and very dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was of sweet chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor had a sweat and big coffee front then a chocolate finish. Light to medium bodied with a lively mouthfeel. yespr (49209) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - AUG 6, 2008
