Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a slightly roasted malty hoppy licorice aroma. Roasted malty hoppy chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter finish. shoulderbroken (4256) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 28, 2013
Bottle at Antenna America. Black coloured with golden head. Aroma is caramel, roasty, slight fruitiness, beefy. Taste is bit savoury, fruity too, chewy, quite strange but nice, fruity cherry and strawberry. Nice and roasty too.

Black in color with a tan head. A bit of rye on the nose, nice roast, pine, and some citrus hops. Grapefruit, orange peel, coffee, and maybe some chocolate. There’s a moderate citrus quality, some pine, floral hops, and lots of roast. Coffee, chocolate, and mild caramel sweetness. Decent bitterness on the finish. peteinSD (1468) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 12, 2013
Tap @ Carlsbad brewpub. Black pour with a quickly thinning tan head. Aroma is rye and roast with chocolate perhaps light coffee and minimal hop bitterness. Taste is heavy on the roast with chocolate and rye with background bitterness. Nice roasty beer but more of a hops presence would be nice. ddemmingjr (890) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAR 29, 2013
Pours black with 2 finger frothy light brown head. Nose- chocolate and roasted malts, coffee, rye and resin. Medium to heavier bodied with flavors of earth and roast, chocolate malts, biscuits, some herbal and resin hops subtly making an appearance. Spicy nuanced finish. Pretty good though not elite.

Sample pour from a bomber. Assertive rye and hops, deep black color. All around solid choice. jonno (2911) - JAPAN - FEB 19, 2013
KS got the chops - this is pretty darn good. Good chocolate malt body, a hint of rye with some pretty big PNW hops. All tied together pretty well. Not overtly flash, but lean, mean and hop green. gvmdw7 (188) - California, USA - JAN 6, 2013
Poured black with little head. Smelled mostly of coffee, but had some bourbon notes. Tasted of coffee, chocalate, and had a nice spicy finish. Serve a little warmer than normal. Taverner (1103) - San Ramon, California, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Awesome black rye-P.A.!!
Thick palate presence, finish is lingering with the remaining starch on your tongue thanking y ou for such a good beer. thetmaxx (927) - West Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 7, 2012
Poured from the bomber. Aroma is mild. The malt character is not overpowering. The rye is present, but the hops are mild, perhaps almost pale ale ish. Finishes thick and oily. Very good black ipa with the rye twist.
