Great mouthfeel and bitter rye flavor, and love the spice, but it needs a lil more hoppy finish. Opens up after resting -- nice chocolate coffee notes.

22oz bottle. Rating #48. Tasty beer, nice light roast with a bit of spicy rye and moderate bitterness. Good stuff and well made. (2560) Ratman197 (14664) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - NOV 15, 2012
Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of roastiness, charcoal, rye, grapefruit, bakers cocoa and light pine. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, charcoal, rye, grapefruit, bakers cocoa and light pine with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty citrus finish. May 11, 2012 - bomber shared with me and blankboy courtesy of B. Mostly opaque ruby-black with a smallish frothy/rocky tan to light brown head. Aroma is resin, light coffee, mostly grain, some alcohol - nice (7+). Taste is really smooth, a tad metallic for a couple of seconds, but that fades out, what is left is mostly deep roast and herbal/resin bitterness. Slick mouthfeel, average body and carbonation and it finishes medium-long, medium-bitter - can’t get over how smooth it is - nice one! Bottle, shared with Gripp and Parksy.very dark brown, beige head. A nicely balanced BIPA, with good expression of both the roast and the hops, subtle chocolate notes. Couldn’t find any rye character in here but I didn’t care. Nice body, nice balance.

(tap at San Diego location) deep black with tan head. Roast malt aroma with some citrus. Taste was coffee, roast malt with a lot of citrus hops in the finish. savnac (2391) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - SEP 6, 2012
22oz bottle. Dark brownish red with a small light tan head. Aroma is lots of citrus, pine and floral hops with coffee, spicy rye and chocolate. Flavor is bitter hops, roasted coffee, cocoa, and light alcohol. Medium body with a thick mouth feel. This is a nice big, hoppy, black IPA. There is a lot going on but seems to work good together. Bottle shared by Savnac: Poured black with a light brown head. Aroma is nice hops, roasted malt and light chocolate. Taste was gritty hops, roasted malts, and soft chocolate. Finishes spicy on the tongue. mjg74 (3093) - La Mesa, California, USA - AUG 29, 2012
Bomber from BevMo. Nose is quite hoppy with a little bit of sweet roasted maltiness. Fairly hoppy with some sweetness. Good amount of roast. Nice balance of hops and roast. Thisis12ptfont (1172) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - AUG 18, 2012
On tap @ Karl Strauss Brewing. First, i’d like to note that i find Karl Strauss beers usually lacking in quality but, this is phenomonal! Aroma is unique, soft caramel, bread and molasses. Color is straight black. Taste is very complex with some flavors of nuts, dough, oats, molasses and bittering hops. Very bitter with strong malts. Overall, this is fantastic! slightly thick with complex flavors. My new favorite from Karl Strauss. A+ rating.
