Best Black IPA I have ever had. Toasty, really creamy, chocolate, slight bitter, slight hops. Super drinkable. Big time coffee flavor. Breakfast beer. Great price too. ChazMania (669) - Oceanside, California, USA - NOV 14, 2011
Bomber poured into glass- huge aroma that reminds me nearly of a smoked porter, that burnt smokey aspect. Dark brown nearly black beer, more carbonation on it than my previous rated beer the Off The Rails. Taste is good with some bitter chocolate along with a nice full body. Much better beer than the previous Karl Strauss beer I was drinking. blutt59 (6564) - Dallas, Texas, USA - OCT 20, 2011

(22oz bottle) Pours a mahogany body with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, rye, citrus, light smoke, and toasted marshmallow. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, citrus, and pine with a dry finish. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - OCT 10, 2011
Bottle. Pours with a near black with a large and thick brown head that has pretty decent staying power and good retention. Aromas of fruit. Strong citrus, orange and grapefruit with a considerable amount of esters. Light roast, coffee, some spice and a bit of a metal character as well. Tobacco, chocolate, light dark fruit. Flavors are quite roasty, toasty and spicy. Roast dominates and finishes a bit nutty, dry and acrid. Thin, dry. Spicy. Moderate hop flavors of pine and citrus (somewhat unpleasant, but I don’t particularly care for Ahtanum hops, which I think this uses). Roast, lightly astringent, lasting bitterness. Thin, warming, medium bubbles. The roast and even somewhat astringent malt character dominates the hop character (that said, I am picky on which Black IPAs I like).

Overall good beer jlieber17 (201) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 5, 2011
22oz bottle. Pours completely opaque black with small foamy brown head. Aroma is piney hops with chocolate. Earthy hops up front followed by unsweetened cocoa and finishes sticky and smooth with an almost stout-like chocolatyness. Very slight lingering bitterness makes this quite an impressive little drink. I’ve generally not been a fan of KS, and this might be the first KS brew I’ve sincerely enjoyed, so I hope they are stepping up their game! badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Black with a creamy tan head. Roasted grain bread and citrus hops aroma and taste with a hoppy finish.
