Fantastic beer. Caramel toast sweet and spicy. You have got to try this one. Not overly Belgium. Nice light and super balanced. Flavors blend well and great finish. thetmaxx (917) - West Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 12, 2010
Poured into 12oz. Karl Strauss pub glass. Color is nice Brown, head is tan and some what creamy helping the vanilla flavour come through. Flavour is toasted and malty, with hints of coriander spice. Aroma also hints at the coriander spices. Overall a pleasant Brown ale. jb (3253) - Rochester, New York, USA - FEB 21, 2009
Draft at CityWalk in Universal City. This was superb. I’d call this one a dubbel. Clear reddish brown. Heavy lacing. Heavy, pungent brown sugar aroma and malty notes, also dried dark fruit. Palate has the plums, heavy candy sweetness, along with a tartness and a grainy backend. A bit spicy and peppery. Fantastic. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 30, 2008
Tap at La Jolla location. Deep dark brown beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is lightly nutty and cocoaish along with a soft pruny/plummy fruitiness. A nice dark toasted malt along with some soft clove and coriander. A touch of licorice and allspice also. Chewy and sweet but not too sweet. Soft and fruity and very well-balanced. These are some of the better Belgian-style brewpub beers that I’ve even had... I know that Strauss is typically a German brewer, but these last few beers have been quite excellent. elguapo47 (13) - California, USA - DEC 9, 2009

On tap @ Torreyana Grille, La Jolla. This was excellent. Nice malty body, yet light and refreshing. Sweet, with a little spice. When Karl Strauss wants to, they can make beers as good as any of the top breweries in San Diego. hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 3, 2011
Bottle… Clear, deep copper ale with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Great retention. The bouquet is of chocolate malt, banana and dark fruit esters overlying a modest clove phenol. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. The flavor awards milk chocolate and dried dark fruits – complex. Lengthy, mashy, bittersweet, dark fruit finish. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - FEB 9, 2011
12oz bottle pours clear copper with off white head. The aroma is roasty malts, spicy yeast, cloves, coriander, a touch dusty and more yeast. The taste offers up various malts and spiciness with roasted malts, a sliver or two of caramel, cloves, allspice, coriander and yeastiness. Wow. The spices, roasted malts and sense of caramel all go very well together here and it finishes up with a mild note of red apple. Tasty stuff. haddon90 (1634) - Newport Beach, California, USA - MAR 4, 2012
Bottle. Pours a clear dark copper color with a thin white head. Nice, Belgian aroma with a sense of malt. Interesting combo. Sweet taste with a lasting malt presence. Very solid brew! JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JAN 13, 2010

Nice brown pour with red highlights and a one inch white head. This beer is easy to drink, but nicely complex with sweetness, vanilla and some spiciness
------ tap at Karl Strauss in Costa Mesa, CA, this beer pours a dark mahogany color with an off white head. The flavor is mildly roasty with some candy sugar sweetness.
