Black with a fizzy tan head. Strong drip coffee and chocolate aroma and taste with a candy and bitter finish. p1meatloaf (256) - Corvallis, Oregon, USA - SEP 26, 2011
In taster at churchills on cask. Looks clear very dark ruby. Small tan hhead. Smells of coffee grounds a bit. Tastes very smooth and velvety yet a smooth lathering of coffee. Overall 7 of 10. brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - SEP 25, 2011
A: The beer pours dark brown in color with a soapy khaki head.
S: As expected, lots of coffee on the aroma. A bit of espresso as well as some coffee grounds. There is a decent amount of roasted malt as well as some dark chocolate notes.
T: Plenty of coffee flavor, too. Some coffee grounds and roasted malts with a light bitterness of dark chocolate. There is a hint of vanilla and a nice toffee-like sweetness.
M: The body is medium and the carbonation is low.
O: A nicely done coffee beer that had a bit of balance (non-coffee flavor) to it. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - AUG 15, 2011
Draught at Brewfest Encinitas. dark brown with a tan head. Lots of smooth coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Clean all around with restrained roasted malts, which lets the coffee really stand out and compliment the already existing bitter, roastiness form the grain. Nice smooth and mellow coffee character. Like an iced coffee. Perfect for a warm afternoon. Only quips are that is was a bit too shin and fizzy. pushkinwow (2887) - Ottawa, CANADA - JUL 26, 2011
On tap at KS in La Jolla. A pleasant replacement tap for something that was tapped out. Ruby brown with tan head. Huge iced coffee/expresso nose, slight bitterness. Starts sweet, mild bitterness, over carbonated and a little thin with coffee throughout. As someone who likes my coffee black and bitter I would have preferred a little more bitterness rather then the sweet coffee but it was still interesting and worth trying.
