Bottle shared by cptnspeed1 (i think)...thanks Brad (I think)! - Pours mahogany with a thin tan head. Nose is molasses, brown sugar, lots of sweet, bready malt--but I don’t smell any of the port barrel. Taste is a little less sweet, with more maltiness and a raisin notes. Big, thick, and slick. This one has the emphasis on the sweet and decadent, but I really hoped for the port to make more of a presence. mjg74 (3205) - La Mesa, California, USA - DEC 25, 2010
Bomber from BevMo. Very deep amber/ruby in color. Stong roastred malt aroma. Some coffee and vanilla. Kind of sweet as well. Smooth and creamy. Some burnt coffee to go along with milky candy sugar. A little alcohol is present. Enjoyable sipper. jeremytoni (3085) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - DEC 12, 2010
From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Toasted malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste. JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - NOV 26, 2010

Dark brown pour with a minimal head, this beer has a nice flavor of light roast, chocolate, coffee, with a twang of winy-ness. I liked the flavor. Very tasty and a nice beer for sipping. Snojerk321 (2984) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 23, 2010
Bottle from K & B wine cellars. Pours an opaque coffee brown with a faint ruby hue. Nose holds roasted malts, light hops and a faint barrel presence. Light vinous notes on the palate. Karl has honestly been kicking ass the past few years, keep it up!!

22oz bottle. Rating #16. Very dark red almost maroon color, not very porterish, the head is a nice creamy dark tan with pretty decent lacing. Roasty aroma, a little smokey even, the coffee is very present. Wow, the flavor is very different from the aroma, sweet dark fruits and just a touch of the coffee in the finish, very smooth but very tasty. 750ml bottle. Pleasantly surprised by this one. Has a super dark pour with a oily texture. Medium sized off white bubbly head. Has an oaky presence in the aroma as well as dark chocolate. The flavor was a bit on the sweet side, but I suppose that comes from the port barrels. Creamy mouth feel and fairly easy to drink. StefanSD (2468) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - NOV 14, 2010
650 ml bottle from bev4less. pours a murky dark brown color with a large khaki head that has good retention and plenty of sticky lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength with chocolates, dark fruits and anise. The flavor is robust and complex with dark chocolate, earthy malts, licorice, biter walnuts, raisins and dates. The palate is smooth with lively carbonation. The finish is long with lingering dark biter chocolate. Overall: Very tasty porter. SDalkoholic (2444) - Linda Vista, California, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Created a monstrous size of foamy head while the liquid was a dark brown color. As for the nose, there was a mild and subtle scent of lightly roasted malt with a faint background of coffee. The palate is smooth and has a velvety texture where as the flavor is a robust combination of black licorice, cocoa powder, and decaf coffee. There is a minimal amount of wood barrel left behind after the aging process but considering that this was brewed by Karl Strauss, this is surprising a decent Baltic porter from them. Pour is dark brown with a tan head. Aroma and flavor are both of brown sugar, roasted malts, and toffee. Some slight spice/nutmeg in the finish. I didn’t pick up any notes of the barrel aging.
