Poured a translucent orangy amber colour with a thin bubble head that produced a few spots of lacing. Moderate carbonation. Citrus and hops plus some malt that gives a well balanced aroma. Taste has similar citrus to nose but less intense. Hops are pleasant and do not produce much bitterness. Thin body. Pleasant short bitter but smooth finish.

In the West Coast, the line between Pale Ale and India Pale Ale is getting more blurred all the time. At 5.3% ABV and 47 IBUs, Pintail is refreshing in that it fits exactly where it should. While it IS hop-forward, theres a balance that really works here. The tropical, herbaceous hops are partially offset by the honey, biscuit malt characteristics. The bright, crisp hop notes hit right where you want them: at the tip of the tongue and the back of the mouth. Right in between is a rich, malty middle. It definitely did right by my palate.

Bottle. Golden color, off-white head. Slightly buttery flavor with a lemony finish. Medium-full body, medium carbonation. Nah.

Draft: Part of the July sampler. Nice, solid, clean, true to style, well crafted. Food Pairing: BBQ ribs.

October 5th, 2013 - The Pintail: hoppy, fresh and piney in the nose, and the flavor keeps up. Theres a nice depth of hops, a floral flourish, and a good, refreshing quality overall.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Just over an inch of head. Color was caramel. Plenty of lacing on top with some film on the sides. The film stayed throughout the pour. Initial whiff was pine and grapefruit, followed by hops. Initial taste was a pleasant balance of hops, pine and grapefruit, followed by a small hint of bitterness. Even some lemon wafer cookies in there as well. Moderate on the carbonation. Flavor stayed consistent throughout. Pine and hops rule the day. I thought this beer was going to be good and it didnt disappoint. Heavy on the hops, but smooth. Great combination.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Would get again fo sho. Had on cask and on tap, both were really good. Aroma was killer, bright with hops. flavor was dry and drinkable and hoppy.

Old bottle, had to be, no way someone would sell this as a APA, flat lifeless beer malt bomb and paper.

beer-yum (1471) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 21, 2014
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2016 Citrus aroma in an amber pour. A delightful drink that ticks all the pale ale boxes with a perfectly balanced body and a laid back, but sustained, bitter finish.

Tap @ Carlsbad brewpub. Slightly hazy golden orange pour with a slick of white foam. Aroma is light bitterness, citrus and pine with a heavy sweet malt presence. Taste is a nice balance of pine and bitterness but theres a heavy sweet malt, caramel flavor in the background which muddies it up quickly. Not very clean.
