tap at brewpub in downtown San Diego-pours bright orange with a small white head. nose is piney with light diacytl, especially as it warmed a bit. some sweet grain notes detected in the nose (cereal and cracker). flavors of sweet hops, grainy malt and light sweetness. ok but nothing special. i had high hopes for this beer since it was going to be a cask offering a few days after i sampled it. some lite earthy and herbal notes on the finish-became very herbal over time. ok. drpimento (3641) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 15, 2014
Pretty good beer overall, really. And I was surprised to get it on the other side of the planet, for me that is. Poured at a good temperature, with a thick, off-white foamy,semi-pemanent head, and lots of lace. Color is a clear, medium, honey amber. Aroma is at first honey caramel, then pine and citrus. Flavor’s like nose, fresh, tasty, (apparently it traveled well) and not too heavy in any area. Body/carbonation are excellent! Finish is like flavor and is super drinkable. I like it the more I drink it. madvike (3264) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 17, 2013
On tap at the brewpub - Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Nose is a blast of citrus--grapefruit with a little pine and onion. Clean malt body, crackery with nice grapefruit and floral hops. Thin and clean body. Awesome--just what I’m looking for in an APA. MrOrla (3216) - Odense C, DENMARK - JUL 17, 2015

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2004 The only reason I drink this was Karl had a lock on all the beers at Street Scene. I know these guys dont give a crap about their beer and it shows. Too bad.

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head.
Very hoppy aroma, lots of pine, floral notes, citrus fruit and spicy hops. Some light clean malt underneath.
Flavours follow along the same lines, with more floral and spicy notes along with a little fruit. Lovely clean malt underneath with just a hint of a cookie dough-like character.
Carbonation is perhaps just a little high.
Wonderfully refreshing and drinkable. mjg74 (3106) - La Mesa, California, USA - OCT 28, 2010
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2010 Bottle from Valley Farm. Aroma is quite bitter. Seems too have a strong pine scent. Dry and bitter. Pretty good hoppiness for an APA. Bitter throughout. Pretty easy drinking. DarkElf (3062) - La Jolla, California, USA - OCT 16, 2004
(Draft: World Curry in San Diego, CA) Not too bad for a Karl Strauss beer, but I have pretty low expectations of them, so it’s all relative I suppose; Moderately bitter, hoppy, dominant light citrus flavor; Pretty light on the malt, with a mild sweetness; Smells lightly sweet and malty with some hops and citrus; Very carbonated mouthfeel, light-to-medium body; Light golden color; Off-white head settles to a sheen, with lots of delicate, but dense lacing jeremytoni (3058) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - MAY 18, 2010
From a tap poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lingering finish. ALLOVATE (3015) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 14, 2012
At just on cool and into a straightwall. There is pine resin, heavily caramelised fruit, rubber and a note of tart berries on the nose. No head; a brilliant amber it produced with fine effervescence. Doughy and a little soapy and underlyingly plastic on the palate. Quenching fruit comes through, as some toffee malts, burnt toast and otherwise bready notes. Piney finish but lapsed in bitterness. Easily quaffable and I don’t know why. Is it odd as this is just another APA!? (12fl.Oz, BB 30/04/13, Dan Murphy’s Currambine)
