UPDATED: MAY 12, 2015 Nice nose and good looking pour. Good hoppiness, grapefruit, some fruity sweetness on the front. Not overly bitter. Crisp. Smooth on the palate. Extremely drinkable pale ale. Not over the top hoppiness or bitterness like IPAs, which allows a more well-rounded enjoyment experience. Would drink this again and again. Wittales (762) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - FEB 18, 2015
Appearance was orangish gold with creamy lasting white 2 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are soft citrus, earthery hops then caramel sweet malts, no alcohol. Taste are grapefruit, lemon, soft earthery spicy hops upfront. Then soft sweet malt middle supports the smooth citrusy, light spice and wood smooth backend. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with medium body, then a balanced lasting slightly drying finish. Overall an solid APA, smooth pale. alang51 (81) - Essendon West, AUSTRALIA - APR 13, 2016

On Tap at Karl Strauss restaurant in Carlsbad, named ’Star of India Pale Ale’ so this may not be correct. Nice color , not much head as delivered, mild nose. Was initially a bit bitter but got better as the glass warmed a bit. A good solid drinkable IPA worth ordering (food is real good there too). kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - OCT 14, 2003

Calling this American Pale Ale "average" does no justice to the wonderful amalgam of caramel maltiness, light and balanced bitterness, an inviting grassy-citrus hop aroma, and a nicely-carbonated feel. Karl Strauss’ Pintail Pale Ale just works -- it goes down smoothly, leaves a pleasant aftertaste, and is the perfect accompaniment to a nice summer day. I had this on tap at Karl Strauss in Costa Mesa. It’s a nice golden pour with good balance between the hops & malt.
