Poured clear and pale amber. A one-finger tall white head produced marginal lacing in the pint glass. The aroma was soapy, medicinal at times and a bit nutty. The flavor was soapy and floral over some nutty sweetness. Thin, almost harsh carbonation. Meh. coldbrewky (1731) - Hippetown East, New York, USA - SEP 18, 2009
Bottle via the Beer Gnome at work.. thank oh kind and gentle creature. Pours a brilliant amber/ copper with light tan head that completly disapears. Moderate nose of sweet malts and some grass. Body is just under the full requirement but is nonethelss bold. Sweet caramel malts are nearly chewy and long lasting. A luxuriously silky finish. hops quietly tinker in the background. allfreej (567) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - AUG 13, 2009
On tap, Karl Strauss at the San Diego Airport. Dark copper pour, with ruby highlights. Light tan head, with fair amount of lace. Not much of a nose, but what there is of it is malty. Malty flavor, caramel, nice body, mild finish. Very refreshing. Papsoe (25054) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 21, 2009
On tap. Clear orangey brown with an off-white head. Sweetish and lightly burned caramel nose. Quite full-bodied with a solid malt base and some caramel accents. No real bitterness. Pleasant alright. 070709 clong83 (285) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 17, 2009
Doesn’t have the bite that I appreciate from a good red ale, but it does have a ton of caramel malts in it. Tastes something like a liquid werther’s original, with some hop bitterness. A bit unbalanced, but still tasty.

Pours a red/brown color. Taste is creamy for a red ale but is good. A hint of caramel can be tasted. Not as bitter as I expected. Overall a good beer. Ungstrup (38986) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUN 15, 2009
Draft at the Carlsbad location. A slightly hazy amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of fruit. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel as well as medium nots of malt and straw, leading to a bitter finish. 17 IBU’s. bergstaden (3339) - Røros, NORWAY - JUN 14, 2009
Dark amber with off white head - malty taste with some bitterness from hops - nice beer NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 27, 2009
Bottle thanks to Snojerk321. Pours a dark red with an offwhite head that goes quickly. Nose is bready and crystal malts, faint syrupy notes. Taste is better, much dryer than I expected with more of the sweet bready notes and a fruity hop character coming through with a touch of vanilla. Really, pretty decent for an amber. A nice sweet, hoppy and refreshing amber. Not great, but not cloying in sweetness. A good pizza beer - but goes well with seafood too. Bready and yeasty.
