On tap pretty much everywhere we went in San Diego, but this rating comes from our extensive sit-down at The Local. Clear copper brown, earthy caramel aroma. Sweet caramel flavour profile, mild bitterness with a tea-leaf finish. RunDWP (203) - San Jose, California, USA - AUG 13, 2008
Sampler on tap at downtown San Diego brewpub. Light caramel aroma. Roasty and caramel malt flavor, with hop bitterness at the finish. Nicely balanced. yespr (47112) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - AUG 6, 2008
From tap at the brewpub in Carlsbad. Pours cloudy hazzlenut brown with a lacing white head. Dry and malty aroma. Caramel malty and dry flavour. Slight breadish. Medium dry and mild bitter finish. K8 (1) - Pittsburgh, USA - JUL 3, 2008 does not count
I had this for the first time in San Diego. I am not usually a fan of ale, but this immediately caught my attention. The first taste reminded me of a stout with a burned, warm flavor, but with a very clean finish. I wish they sold this one in PA. BOLTZ7555 (3027) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUN 28, 2008
Biscuit and mild sweetness...with a crimson body and extremely small head. Just wasn’t impressed by anything from this brewery...but the food was pretty damn good!!!

On tap at Universal City location. Aroma of currants, some alcohol, a bit of caramel and maybe some smoke or scotch. Pours with an off-white head with some lacing over an amber body. Taste is of soggy malts. Its too fizzy and a bit harsh. Oscbert (1319) - Lincoln, California, USA - JUN 13, 2008
~Pours a copper color with small head.
~Light malty scent. Not much else.
~Sweet and biscuity with a bit of bitterness.
~Thin feel quick finish
~Its decent just too watered down.

Amber colored pour with little to no head. Malty, caramel aroma with a caramel toffee finish. This was ok. phishpond417 (2088) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 7, 2008
Nice full bodied brew that suprised me because of the hops. Noticeable higher IBUs- pours an attractive deep amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is faint, but taste is mildly hoppy with sweet undertones and a firm well balanced finish. okitasan (10) - USA - MAY 5, 2008
Had it at Karl Strauss La Jolla. I thought it was pretty decent, it was sort of sweet with a lingering taste of dates.
