Draft sampler at brewpub downtown. Poured a clear reddish amber color with medium frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sweet toasted malt aroma. Medium body. Average sweet roasted malt flavor with a moderate smooth sweet finish of moderate duration.

Local consideration at Pizza Port Solena Beach. Some lace, some yeast noted, and some toasted malt. Not all that bad but this style is fairly commonplace and topped by many. Easy drink and beats a macro, not way out of a place in the incredible California beer landscape.

A clear deep copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was of light caramel and a hint of citrus. The flavor was citrus over a caramel malt base with some fruits mixed in. Citrusy finish. Very light on the bitterness.

Had at Karl strauss after PP Str Ale fest, my pallet is dead so this seemed very lite with little mouth feel, Perfectly clear amber to red, slight roast malt flavor little hops. Refreshing but thats it. Will re-rate when in town and not continuing from a great fest

Draught 11/21/06 at an aiport bar in san diego. pours amber with a large white head. The scent is very lightly malty with a lingering hop afertaste refreshing but sharp.

On tap at Columbia Street brewery. Clear copper to red color with lasting off white head. Almost no aroma. Really tasty sweet malt flavor of caramel malts with some toffee notes. A bit of bitterness rounds out the flavor.

I’m a native San Diegan and I seriously wanted to like this beer to honor my San Diego roots, however, it just didn’t have the flavor I expected from it.

Draft at Marie Calanders. Suprisingly tastey, with enough toasty malts and hops to make me prefer this over a Sam Adams in places with limited variety. Flavors of Smoked Malts, Barley toast, honey with medium hoppieness. Finishes a bit sweet with hints of fruits. A bit overdone with the carbonation.

Draught. Aug 2006, Karl Strauss near South Coast Plaza, CA. Color was a nice red/amber. Picked up some nice fruity and caramel aromas. Taste was more malty than fruity for me. Still somewhat sweet. Overall it was the best beer I had there.
