On tap at Columbia Street brewery. Clear copper to red color with lasting off white head. Almost no aroma. Really tasty sweet malt flavor of caramel malts with some toffee notes. A bit of bitterness rounds out the flavor.

Draft at some restaurant on the beach in San Diego. Decent taste, nothing too exciting going on though.

Im a native San Diegan and I seriously wanted to like this beer to honor my San Diego roots, however, it just didnt have the flavor I expected from it.

Draft at Marie Calanders. Suprisingly tastey, with enough toasty malts and hops to make me prefer this over a Sam Adams in places with limited variety. Flavors of Smoked Malts, Barley toast, honey with medium hoppieness. Finishes a bit sweet with hints of fruits. A bit overdone with the carbonation.

Draught. Aug 2006, Karl Strauss near South Coast Plaza, CA. Color was a nice red/amber. Picked up some nice fruity and caramel aromas. Taste was more malty than fruity for me. Still somewhat sweet. Overall it was the best beer I had there.

Bottle poured a clear redish amber with a large diminishing amber head. Aromas of fruitiness, carmel, toffee and some light citrus motes. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of sweet malt, apple, toffee and just a hint of lemon with acrisp lingeringlightly bittersweet finish. One of the more enjoyable ambers Ive sampled.

This had an average head.Color was a nice red-amber.Good biting dry aroma. This was a good tasting red,but it was more of an IPA to me.Not enough of the fruityness of a good red.It was tasty though

A decent amber. Slightly thick and sweet on the palate. Lots of malt character that is well balanced by the hops. I drink a lot of this at the airport every time Im in town.

On tap at brewpub, Carlsbad, CA: Color is more brown than red with a beige colored head that mostly diminishes. Aroma of cheap cologne. Flavor was soapy with a bit of soggy maltiness. Disappointing.

Copper pour with a medium tan head, which quickly dissapates. Somewhat thin-bodied. Virtually flat and uncarbonated texture. Roasted caramel and toffee malt with a lighly creamy texture. Very light hints of a floral hopping highlight. Average.
