UPDATED: NOV 19, 2016 Deep amber pour with thin head. Slight sour, hoppy and caramel aroma. Light to medium body. A light crisp, fruity, nutty, toffee, malt balance of flavour. Quite pleasant. A reasonable red disguised as a clean finish mid ABV ale. aleph (231) - - MAY 20, 2012
Bottle. Deep red brown pour, dissipating off-white head. Malty, watery, something almost metallic in the aftertaste. Not much on the nose, however. Medium (barely) body. It’s okay. o_Merlin_o (225) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Pours a beautiful red tinged golden brown. Zero head. And I truly mean zero. The top is crystal clear. Zero aroma. I can't smell a single thing. Tastes okay, but very watered down. No unpleasant off notes. Just plain and boring.

Little in the way of aroma. A nice red color. Super malty flavor. Balanced and non descript. Rex_Remes (215) - Bonyhad, HUNGARY - MAR 12, 2015
OK nose .. cherry, berry, syrup, malt. Reddish amber pour. medium head. Medium body, with flavors of coffee, cherry, malt ... a bit too sweet. Oily on palate. A bit flat. Above average beer because of flavor and complexity, but a little weak on body/structure, and too sweet and caramel for me.

Amber color with almost no head. Caramel aroma with a hint of hops. Taste is totally caramel. Tastes similar to the Alaskan Amber. Good, but to sweet for a beer.

Pours rich amber with low level carbonation and a thin head. Hints of toffee and roasted crystal malt. Flavours of caramelized toffee and bready malts dominate proceedings here with some low level ester. Very easy drinking. Skip (206) - Indiana, USA - JUL 16, 2004
I like hops in my nose. Red trolley is all that. Rusty red color with a very dry but mostly barley taste (?). Fair head retention and nice lace. Sampled on tap in San Diego. RunDWP (203) - San Jose, California, USA - AUG 13, 2008
Sampler on tap at downtown San Diego brewpub. Light caramel aroma. Roasty and caramel malt flavor, with hop bitterness at the finish. Nicely balanced. Kurtos (200) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JAN 22, 2013
Bottle. Pours a Bronze-Red colour.
Aroma’s of mainly caramel and sultana’s.
Taste. Definitely can taste the Caramel as others have stated, but also notice Black liquorice flavours along with a slight currant flavour, almost no hop flavours but it does finish with a slight bitterness.
Palate. This is quite thick and a little syrupy in the mouth.
Overall. This is a beer that delivers a nice sweetness, yet isn’t too sweet and has no off flavours.
This beer would be very good with sticky date pudding and other desserts.
