Red amber color with a medium off white head. Nose is light and sweet. Flavor starts caramel sweet and ends with a slight sourness. After taste has a hint of bitterness. SDbruboy (1864) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 31, 2004
Draft. Poured deep reddish brown with a creamy off-white head that lingered well. Sweet malty nose, with hints of spice. Very malty, sweet ale with a slight hop presence. A little unbalanced as an amber ale, really reminded me more of a scottish style. Smooth, medium body and creamy carbonation. Audio (18) - san diego, California, USA - APR 19, 2004
Not a huge fan of Ambers, not a huge fan of Karl Strauss. This one is just OK. Let's just say it's drinkable. AleDrinker (1089) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - AUG 9, 2004
This beer has lots of aroma. You can smell lots of malt but the hops too. Pretty red color. Pretty good overall. Enniskillen (2060) - Bakersfield, California, USA - NOV 22, 2004
Draft, color and aroma is more like a brown then an amber. Caramel, honey, oak. Taste is too sweet, slightly spicey with caramel. Unbalanced and doesn’t show an hop character.

Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla: Bronze color, nose of caramel and light fruity hops and strawberry. The flavor is lightly sweet and crisp with hops. Finishes creamy and light, meh. chargerfanjess (129) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 10, 2006
