COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

From a 355ml bottle on 17/6/2012. Pours a clear dark golden with a big head. Has quite a big piny hop aroma, against a background of brown sugar and fruit. This is a very hop forward brew, with a huge pint, grapefruity bitterness dominating, but there’s also a decent whack of caramel malt and sweet orange. It could be a shade more balanced but this is still a very solid, big, high quality IPA. I’m surprised it doesn’t rate a bit higher on here.

Bottle. Amber golden pour. Lots of caramel on the nose and powering the taste. Citrus hops, grapefruit and pine. Lighter body.

This is the ideal IPA. Floral, hoppy and refreshing. Great golden body with a almost too long of a lasting head. Great summer bbq beer.

ALLOVATE (3063) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 7, 2012
A very alluring beer. Deep set, shimmering and radiant orange copper body with a fine bead. Tight, messy and dense off-white crown is steadfast and weaves a thick lace. Initial buttery Ovaltine aroma wanes a little to reveal a nice level of spicy, piercing, weedy and herbal hops over layers of toasted, dusty but sweet malt, twiggy bark and pine needles, and bitter/sweet orange. Quite unexpectedly soft in the mouth, creamy and foamy in mouthfeel. Initial thoughts are of the drawing acrid and sharp bitterness that peaks on the swallow, quite earthy, weedy and raw but controlled making for a long hoppy finish. Pinewood meets toasted grain and breakfast cereal flavours giving balance to the wicked use of Chinook and Centennial hops displayed here. It’s clean, dry, raw and a little rough but this all made for good drinking. (12fl.Oz, BBE 02/13, Dan Murphy’s Currambine)

There’s a really deep caramel flavour with some undercurrents of citrus on the nose. The hops come through more clearly on the tongue with a strong streak of grapefruit down the middle and plenty of malt holding it up. Lovely.

hawthorne00 (4118) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUN 1, 2012
Bottle, 10C. Pale amber with an inch of off white head. Pleasant but somewhat reserved aroma of grapefruit, orange blossoms, pine, caramel. Oily mouthfeel. Taste is bittersweet, with pine and grapefruit kicking in immediately backed by caramel. Fairly brief finish is bitter, woody and dry. Not very exciting, but harmonious.

DeliriumT (542) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAY 19, 2012
The aroma is fresh and grassy and the flavour is more subtly bitter than most IPA’s.

UnDecaf (106) - Mountain View, California, USA - MAY 13, 2012
Pale and clear color. Very easy to drink, a little sweet with some bitter notes later on. Nothing remarkable but a decent easy to drink IPA.
