Bottle at home. Aroma is tropical fruits, grapefruit, pine resin, orange, mandarin, palt malt, some floral notes hops. Flavour is light sweet with an almost medium bitter finish. Body is medium. There’s a smooth delicate balance to this beer, it delivers on the fruity piney front and I dig the sweetish/bitter flavour. Delicious. MBlessing (1312) - Württemberg, GERMANY - DEC 27, 2015

West Coast IPA by the well-known Karl Strauss, with a nice origin story behind it. Thick, frothy, irregular but densely structured, egg-white, thickly lacing head over a cristal clear, warm ’old gold’ coloured beer with fierce sparkling rising up from the bottom of the glass; clouded and more ’brownish’ golden with deposit. Elegantly hop fragrant nose with hints of yellow grapefruit, chamomille, freshly cut grass and a lot of it, bitter orange peel, lemon zest, unmistakable pine needle, hint of sweetbread, peanuts, honey even, as well as a slight impression of stale sweat; in all, more ’herbal’ and plant- or spice-like than exotically fruit- or citrus-like, but quite elegant. Crisp and ’clear’ onset, subdued fruitiness with some hints of green apple and unripe plum, light salty touch effortlessly gliding into early hop bitterness gaining in strength towards the finish, stretching itself over a light malt backbone with a basic ’pale malt’ character, dryish with a very light bready edge somewhere; finish is all hops, bone dry, thoroughly bittering in a rooty, herbal, spicy, tonic water kind of way with some retronasal citrus peel and flower aromas, laying a resiny coating on the tongue and throat, and stopping anything that would remain from an already very subdued malt sweetness. Without this malt to soften the resiny, bittering hops, this particular offering could perhaps come across as a bit crude - one for the true bitter beer lover, I’d say. I like it, but I must admit I expected more malt body from a 7% ABV beer. markextrae (4424) - Alingsås, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - DEC 14, 2015

San Diego, man. Never did get there. Friends living there for two years - open house, come on and stay! Kids, man. Drag. They had four, we had two. Too many kids, man. Drag. The beer: hazy lemon curd, lasting head. Classic US hop aroma - passionfruit, mango, canned peaches. Rasping bitterness - probably at the upper limit of what my feeble palate can bear in a session ale. Grapefruit rind. Puckering. (330ml bottle from Dan Murphys and may the good Lord damn my eternal soul for shopping there)
