Location: On tap at the The Fish Market in San Diego, 1/5/10

Aroma: Banana, clove, wheat, orange
Appearance: Hazy yellow color
Flavor: German wheat flavor, with banana and spice
Palate: Light-medium, crisp, refreshing
Overall Impression: My first (of 4 from last week) Karl Strauss rating. It was a solid beer, nice outdoor refresher, and that works well in a locale where you can pretty much always sit outside and drink. Fairly typical German style hefe, nice flavors, but nothing super exciting.

Hazy golden coloured body with a thick, dense white head. Aroma of pale malt, wheat, coriander seed, curacao and a very fresh yeast note - a touch of sugars too. Light to Meidum-bodied; Creamy, wheatie flavour with a good dose of light spices that leave the mouth very fresh. Aftertaste shows a little alcohol, a little fruit and a nice pungent yeast note. Overall, a respectable german hef with some nice yeast and wheat flavours, but the cool refreshing spice flavour is definitely still noticeable. I sampled this pint on draught at the LAX Terminal 7 location in Los Angeles, California on 23-June-2010.

Smells mediumly of bananas. Flavor is quite wheaty with some coatingness to it that I also dont like. Much too wheaty for me with a bad aftertaste.

On tap at Karl Strauss. Cloudy yellow with creamy white head. Strong banana and clove aroma, with a good banana bread taste and a citrus finish.

Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla: Hazy orange tinged yellow. Nose of light soapy wheat and light yeast esters. The flavor has a nice body with creamy marshmallow blended with the esters. Finishes light and nice, good. Why is it that these brewpub hefes are a large amoutn better than their other attempts at some styles?

Draft at the brewpub in RB. Pours hazy yellow with a frothy white head. Tastes like earthy wheat malt, cloves and bananas with light hop bitterness and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation. Smells like spicy and earthy wheat, malt, coriander, cloves, and bananas.

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass was cloudy gold with a white head. Nose of banana and clove. Medium body. Favor is classic here with the banana an clove you would expect in abundance. Finishes with the clove spice. Excellent.

Karl Strauss Wind and Sea Wheat 5.1% 12 IBU A cloudy gold that looks like pineapple juice with a tangy citrus and wheat aroma. Medium bodied with a raspy carbonation the taste is very sweet cloves that almost verges on cream soda and tangy fruit. A middle of the road wheat beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
