Draft at the brewpub in RB. Pours hazy yellow with a frothy white head. Tastes like earthy wheat malt, cloves and bananas with light hop bitterness and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation. Smells like spicy and earthy wheat, malt, coriander, cloves, and bananas.

lusikka (7813) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 30, 2015
Draught @ Karl Strauss Brewing Co (La Jolla), San Diego, CA. Pours a cloudy bright yellow colour with a small white head. Aroma of wheat, a bit of coriander, sea water and floral notes. Flavour of wheat, husky graininess, floral hops, a bit of saltiness and some yeastiness. Light bodied. Refreshing. Not that complex but very easy-going.

BuckeyeBoy (7663) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 11, 2016
On tap at Disneyland. Pours out a hazy wheat color topped with a white head. Nose is light banana esters bubble gum spice. Taste is more of the nice nice malty spice banana.

This Hefeweizen by Karl Strauss seems to fall right between the American and German wheat beer approaches. Naturally, there’s a slightly cloudy yellow appearance. Bavarian-type aromas with banana, clove, and hay. Flavor starts off with those same notes, then there’s a more American-style grain sweetness that takes over (rather than a dry, yeasty finish characteristic of a German wheat ale). There’s a subtle vanilla sweetness, which is nice. Right at the end, there’s an overly sweet canned corn note, which is not so nice. Apart from that unfortunate ending, Windansea is a well-executed wheat beer with a lovely, creamy depth to its body and a great range of flavor.

Dogbrick (13003) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 9, 2007
On draught at Islands restaurant in Huntington Beach, served with a lemon. The beer is a hazy yellow-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Wheat, bananas and clove in the nose. Medium, clean body with wheat, tropical fruit and sweet spice flavors. The finish is fruity with a lingering wheaty aftertaste. Above average overall.
