Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla. Clear golden color with thin white head. Light noble hop aroma and flavor nicely balanced with a slgithly sweet cereal grain flavor. Crisp and clean, light body. Not a bad beer. AmEricanbrew (6877) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - DEC 4, 2008
Clear gold with a frothy head. Sweet bready malt, grassy hop aroma. Medium body. Subtle flavor is lite sweet bready pale malts. Crisp clean finish. Very easy drinking. jefe026 (37) - USA - AUG 9, 2009
Pours a typical golden but caries an amazing aroma of malt and hops, the taste was very sweet and malty followed by a refreshing hop bitterness. While definitely not the best beer in the world it definitely is refreshing and beats the hell out of budweiser elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - NOV 8, 2009
On tap, Chili Cookoff. Not too much to say about this one, it’s a rather simple style that is well executed but . . . simple. Gold-amber in color with a grainy, slightly grassy nose. Taste is pale malt, light herbal hops, a bit indescript. Not offensive, but certainly boring. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Fizzy slightly darker hue of yellow beer with fizzy white head to lace. Hints of asparagus in the nose. Will my pee smell like this later? I guess it’s also yeast and sugar. Taste is light lager, with leftovers. Cardboard and grass. Light lemon and grape sweetness. Bit of twang. I’ve had worse? It’s funny how 5/10 on nose is F. 3/5 on app is D-. Taste 5/10 F. Palate 3/5 D-. But overall it’s still a beer I can see enjoying on a hot day with a burger and chips at the beach, so I I give it a 13/20 which is a D+. I can’t help it that I like beer.

"Not great not bad...kind of a light but floral blonde ale. Good fresh but I wouldn’t trust in bottles. Fairly traditional...flowers and a spice kick, light and crisp in body and flavor. M" Foxbush (2088) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 27, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2008 Upon visiting the Karl Strauss resturant and brewery in Carlsbad we enjoyed some of their beers. This was an excellent golden pilsner with some hopiness and a crisp finish. You could drink this beer all day. It was not complex but a very drinkable brew. I had another in San Diego at the Redfields bar at the Manchester Hyatt Hotel. It is avery good all around Pils. jlthiering (48) - Viginia Beach, Maryland, USA - OCT 15, 2007
I enjoyed this beer from the beer pub on tap. It had a good taste, not amazing, but definitely consumable. The beer was real yellow, and kind of foggy, not bad though. RedSox2004 (1962) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - MAY 17, 2008
Poured clear golden yellow with a pillowy head that left decent lacing. Not as hoppy as I expected on the nose; mostly malty breads and biscuits. Taste mirrored the smell, but included a touch of floral hops. Soft mouthfeel, well carbonated, would make a good session beer. One of the best labels I’ve ever seen. cazort (567) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 22, 2008
(Bottle) Bohemian Pilsener? Heck no. Drinkable? Heck yes. This beer is grossly miscategorized: very little bitterness, hops, and the character of the malt is not grassy and clear like in the Pilseners. This tastes more like any number of other styles...it’s light, but not that crisp and refreshing. Too bland for me.
