Ruby brown color with lasting tan head. earthy fresh moss, medium roast, nutty aromas. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate, medium roast, caramel flavors, big hoppy bitter finish--good Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - JUL 13, 2012
22oz bottle from my Alaskan hook-up, thanks Tasha! Bottle says 6.8%ABV rather than the RateBeer listed 8%ABV. Pours a black body with a big, dense and foamy, two finger-width, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is slightly dry roasts with maybe a touch of maple sweetness along with a light dark chocolate, a few dark fruits, and a touch of earthiness. Flavor is better. Nice roastiness, dark chocolate, and light maple sweetness up front before a touch of dark fruits come in. Finishes dry and roasty with a light earthy bitterness balanced well with a nice dark chocolate and light maple sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderately lively carbonation. Overall, a decent porter. Nice flavor with an enjoyable roast, dark chocolate, and slight maple syrup sweetness. Nothing special, but glad to have tried. savnac (2656) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - MAR 13, 2010
On tap @ Spenard Roadhouse. Dark brown with a dense creamy light tan head. Aroma of maple syrupy, chocolate and light coffee. Flavor is an excellent blend of sweet malt and maple, bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Medium body with mild carbonation and a smooth creamy mouth feel. This is a fantastic beer, the maple shows itself just enough without being to sweet and syrupy. Hope to see this around town more often.
