Kasteel Rouge is a blend of Kasteel Donker and cherry liquor. The mix of these two excellent products creates an exceptional soft beer with references to the dark mother beer.

2007 Vintage ~ Happy Valentine’s Day!

2/14/2008: Kasteel Rouge is the color of a cranberry’s skin and has a fluffy rouge-colored head. The aroma has sour cherry, some artificial cherry, and a hint of that lambic-like funk. The first sip is sweet like a cherry sucker with a bit of alcohol/cough syrup flavor in the finish. However, the next sip and those in sucsession start to reveal more of the nuances of this beer such as a real, sourish cherry flavor, some tartness, and hints of that funky lambic-like quality. This beer is generously carbontated, but not fizzy. It has a medium-light body and is quite tasty. I got this for my wife for Valentine’s Day and she did enjoy it. It isn’t as good or complex as the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/new-glarus-belgi Glarus Belgian Red that she loves so much, but at least I can buy this one in the area and it isn’t too terribly expensive!

1 pt 9.5 fl.oz. bottle (Alc. 8% by Vol. ~ Bottled on: 070416) recommended by tish and purchased at The Party Source in Bellevue, Kentucky . Rating #199 for this beer...

Pours a deep garnet with light purple head. Big cherry aroma like a liqueur or cordial, not quite cough syrupy or cough drop. Big sweet cherry flavor, almost viscous. Okay beer.

Dark ruby beer with small thin pink head. Aroma is cherry, sour fruits. Taste is sweet cherry, malts and little sour feel. Medium body. Nice warming cherry tasting fruit beer.

Poured into a tulip glass, a tap soda foam levels quickly revealing a deep ruby color. With no visible bubbles, this rouge ale sits like blood solid in the glass. The scent is that of a good old school black cherry soda. A bold thirst quenching juiciness explodes on the taste buds, with a heavy liquor feel. Hints of Spanish brandy and fresh cherry pie. The finish is not as rich as the taste though; I feel this Belgian could’ve considerably benefited from barrel aging, so the sugar content is contrasted by oakiness. An excellent Belgian, I’m surprised by the lukewarm ratings on this one. Cheers Castle VH!

I drunk better kriek than this. This so sour, but not the good way. I will not buy it anymore.

7-3-7-3-13. Nothing wrong with it: looks ok, smell and taste of sweet cherries natural, carbonation ok. Uncompromising sweet cherriebeer

Bottle at Beerdock Leek. Pours a deep ruby colour with a thin pink head. Aroma of black cherry, kirsch, slight red fruits and subtle sourness. Taste of black cherry, kirsch, some syrup, slight dark malts, a hint of sourness and subtle oak/wood. Medium bodied and a sticky texture. A sweet, sticky cherry finish. Lovely and sweet, cherry liquor aroma. Taste is still cherry liquor but more woody and less sour, quite sticky. It’s nice but expecting more from how it began.
