COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kasteel Winter is a unique departure from the standard Christmas ales known for their potpourri of cinnamon and clove. In fact, it stands alone as one of the most decadent and elegant Quadruples of Belgium in its own right. This 11% ABV beer pours a Chestnut brown with an off-white head. The nose is rich, with a warming scent of Coffee, Toffee, and Dried Fruits. The mouthfeel is rich and sweet like that of melted candy. The key ingredients to this delicacy is Belgian Chocolate and Coffee...noteworthy phrases in any brewers handbook. All of these elements come together to provide an after taste reminiscent of a tootsie roll.

On tap at Shamrocks, known as Barista Chocolate Quad. It poured a brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of coffee, dried fruits, caramel and chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with more coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, vanilla, toast and toffee. Tasty.

It pours dark brown with a light brown head. The aromas showcase both malts and esters. Chocolate, raisin, and plum are in the forefront with Caramel, vanilla, and bread in the background. The initial flavors reflect the malts of bread and chocolate. These flavors are quickly replaced with the esters of plum, raisins, and dried fruit. There are spices evident throughout the flavoring experience along with the strong presence of alcohol. It has a moderate body with significant alcohol warming. The warming is not hot, but does have a bitter finish. Overall, this is a dark belgian strong that differs in the chocolate presence which is significant. The balance is a bit towards the chocolate, but not so much so that it takes away from the other complex flavors that are blended in throughout the taste experience.

Dark brown colour with beige head on top. Aroma has banana, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, sweet aroma. Taste is sweet with chocolate and banana, coffee too but the banana is overkill. Dried fruits are there too. Fullish body and medium carbonation. Weird banana note makes me think about weizenbock or something. Coffee makes this at least a bit interesting.

A finger of foam sitting on black liquid, with excellent lacing. Booze, dark fruit and chocolate with some vanilla in the smell. Same in the taste with the booze standing out a tad too much. Pity. Without that strong alcohol, I would rate it higher. Full bodied.

330 mL bottle as Barista Chocolate Quad. Pours a deep red black with a light tan head. Aroma has cocoa and red grape with touches of coffee and cream. Flavor is a nice mix of light-roasty, creamy coffee with cocoa and dark fruit (fig, red grape) and toffee. Very well done.
